Reduce the burden of childbirth and improve the quality of life

2024-11-22

The population issue is of paramount importance to the country, and population development is closely related to the national economy and people's livelihood. At present, China has generally shifted from population growth to population reduction, and the degree of aging and declining birth rates has deepened. It is important and necessary to optimize the birth policy and strengthen service support. Not long ago, the General Office of the State Council issued the "Several Measures to Accelerate the Improvement of the Fertility Support Policy System and Promote the Construction of a Fertility Friendly Society", proposing a series of fertility support measures from four aspects, including marriage, childbirth, nurturing, and education, covering multiple links from childbirth to childcare, education, medical care, housing to employment, etc. It has strong practical pertinence and is conducive to creating a good atmosphere of respect and support for childbirth in the whole society. For families, the pressure of childbirth not only occurs during the October pregnancy period, but also runs through the long-term nurturing process. To better promote the effectiveness of fertility support policies, we must adhere to systematic thinking, identify pain points that constrain fertility intentions, refine and optimize specific measures, in order to mobilize the fertility intentions of people of childbearing age. The policy of supporting childbirth involves various aspects, and it is crucial to identify the key areas of focus to provide a sense of achievement for families of childbearing age. Fertility not only has direct costs, but also indirect costs and opportunity costs. Only by implementing targeted policies can we hedge costs and reduce worries. Currently, many places have implemented policy measures such as strengthening medical security and increasing subsidies to safeguard fertility, which is both feasible and necessary. However, if we further broaden our horizons, we can discover more room for effort. For example, if it is inconvenient for parents to pick up and drop off, specific implementation measures for multi child girls attending the same school may be introduced in places where conditions permit; If there is no one to take care of the child, incentive measures can be taken to encourage employers to adopt flexible commuting, remote work and other methods based on the actual situation; The high cost of marriage is also a way to reduce the burden by breaking down traditional customs such as extravagant wedding ceremonies and high dowries. It should be noted that childbirth has a huge impact on an individual's physical and mental state, career development, family living atmosphere, economic burden, etc. Fully evaluating the impact of various aspects, improving the precision and penetration of policies, truly reducing the burden of childbirth, improving quality of life, and increasing the willingness to have children will be a natural process. It should also be noted that childbirth has a greater impact on women. Nowadays, discrimination against women in the workplace regarding childbirth still exists. We need to improve policies to promote women's employment, provide corresponding subsidies or policy preferences to employers, strengthen the protection of the rights and interests of female employees during pregnancy, childbirth, and child rearing stages, and create a better parenting environment. Women are playing increasingly important roles in the workplace, and if they have to bear the heavy burden of childcare alone at home, their willingness to have children will naturally be greatly reduced. Actively building a new culture of marriage and childbirth, promoting couples to share the responsibility of raising children; Strengthening medical security for childbirth and improving the experience of childbirth for mothers... Multiple measures should be taken to ensure that every mother can receive dual support and respect from society and family. Maintaining a reasonable level of fertility and a balanced population structure is of great significance for the sustainable development of the economy and society, as well as the long-term stability of the country. We look forward to the continued improvement and implementation of fertility support measures by various regions and departments, accelerating the construction of a fertility friendly society, and using more refined policy measures to support the diversified fertility needs of the masses, further reducing the costs of childbirth, nurturing, and education, and encouraging more people to dare and be willing to have children.
