Haiwei GD11000 completes its first deep-sea survey mission

2024-11-20

On the 19th, it was learned from Dalian Maritime University that the "Haiwei GD11000" deep-sea cable winch system, jointly developed by the university and Nantong Liwei Machinery Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Hengtong Huahai Technology Co., Ltd. and other units, has recently completed its first deep-sea survey mission in the South China Sea with the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey's "Marine Geological No.2" ship. It is reported that the "Haiwei GD11000" is currently the only complete deep-sea optical cable winch system in the world, all of which are domestically produced and completely independently controllable. The towing operation of the voyage has a cable length of over 11000 meters and a water depth of over 4000 meters, fully verifying the stability and operational capability of the domestic deep-sea winch system. The optical cable winch system is used for the deployment, recovery, and towing of large-scale systems such as deep-sea towing systems and cable controlled underwater robots. It is an indispensable equipment in the exploration and development of deep-sea resources. As marine scientific research gradually moves towards the deep sea, more harsh operating environments and more precise scientific exploration requirements have put forward higher requirements for the winch system in scientific research. The traditional optical cable winch system cannot achieve full sea depth operation due to the large weight of metal armored cables, so there is an urgent need to carry out domestic independent research and development of full sea depth optical cable winch systems. Li Wenhua, the chief scientist of the project and a professor at the School of Marine Engineering of Dalian Maritime University, introduced that the maximum working water depth of the "Haiwei GD11000" winch can reach 11000 meters, which is the first complete deep-sea optical cable winch system and the first 13000 meter non-metallic armored optical cable in China. Its safe working load can reach up to 15 tons, and the maximum working speed can reach 120 meters per minute; Its non-metallic armored optoelectronic cable is 13000 meters long, with a diameter of less than 34 millimeters, and a power transmission power of over 51 kilowatts. It can carry out scientific research operations in the deepest waters of all seas around the world, meeting the needs of multi-channel optical transmission. It is reported that in the next step, the "Haiwei GD11000" will carry out regular deep-sea and polar survey operations on board, providing reliable support for China's marine scientific research industry to "move towards the ocean, the deep sea, and the polar regions".
