3175 cultural relics from Xinjiang grassroots museums have been newly added

2024-11-14

On November 12th, the Xinjiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology transferred 3175 unearthed cultural relics to grassroots museums in 8 prefectures and cities in Xinjiang. This is the largest and most diverse single transfer of cultural relics in Xinjiang so far, greatly enriching the categories and quantity of cultural relics in the collections of grassroots museums in Xinjiang. The reporter learned from the Xinjiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology that the transferred cultural relics come from 12 archaeological projects that the institute has been responsible for excavating in recent years, including the Kuqa Friendship Road Tomb Group and the Nilekeji Rentai Gou Kou Site. The cultural relics span a wide range of ages, from the Bronze Age to the Song and Yuan Dynasties, with textures including stone, pottery, bone, wood, copper, gold, glass, etc., and types including production and living tools, weapons, decorations, etc. Li Wenying, director of the Xinjiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, introduced that these large and small, simple or exquisite cultural relics have important value in truly reflecting the daily lives of ancient residents in Xinjiang, revealing the historical changes and socio-economic and cultural development of related regions, and promoting communication and integration among various ethnic groups. The Kuqa Friendship Road Tomb Group is an important archaeological discovery from the Han and Jin dynasties in Xinjiang in recent years. It was named one of the "Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries in China in 2007" and is also the archaeological excavation project with the largest number of cultural relics transferred this time. More than 2100 cultural relics specimens were transferred, of which nearly 1700 will be allocated to the newly built Kucha Museum. This batch of cultural relics transferred and supplemented will effectively improve the situation of a single variety and small quantity of cultural relics in museums, enrich the exhibition content of museums, and enhance the visitor experience According to Gao Xianzhi, Director of the Culture, Sports, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau of Kuche City, the new Kuche Museum has been under construction since March this year and is expected to open in May next year. It will become an important exhibition window for Kuche City's history and culture. In recent years, under the coordinated promotion of the Autonomous Region Department of Culture and Tourism and the Cultural Relics Bureau, the Xinjiang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology has transferred nearly 5000 cultural relics to 25 museums in the autonomous region, effectively revitalizing cultural relics resources, stimulating museum vitality, and benefiting people of all ethnic groups from archaeological excavation results. He Li, Director of the Archaeology Department of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Cultural Relics Bureau, introduced that in the next step, the bureau will continue to coordinate the collaborative cooperation between various archaeological excavation project units and museums at all levels in Xinjiang, continuously enrich the cultural "supply" of museums through cultural relics transfer and other means, form a virtuous cycle of mutual promotion and common development between excavation research and exhibition promotion, and continue to promote the sharing of cultural relics protection and utilization achievements among the whole people.
