Subsequently, due to climate change, human activities, and other factors, the area of the lake gradually decreased. In 2004, the water area of Qinghai Lake shrank to 4244.5 square kilometers. The vegetation coverage and the number of rare and endangered wild animals in the lake area have also decreased synchronously. Throughout history, the water area of Qinghai Lake has been in a state of dynamic change.
