He obtained more than 332000 yuan in funds by "using empty hands to trap white wolves"; From 2017 to 2018, Li Zongxing helped a company win the bid for a certain 2D seismic acquisition project and a seismic exploration project at the Institute of Mechanics, actively demanding a fee of 650000 yuan. The field survey work sites are numerous, with long lines and wide geographical areas. The project team often needs to rent multiple off-road vehicles, which results in high expenses and flexibility. Engaging in illegal rental business is also a way for him to gain personal gain Li Yongmei said that Li Zongxing arranged for someone else to register a car rental company on his behalf, and then undertook the outdoor car rental business for the project he was responsible for, earning more than 450000 yuan from it. He also used the funds he obtained from his employer to purchase a car, and later rented it out to the employer, earning over 116000 yuan in rent. According to the investigators, Li Zongxing was involved in every aspect of the "eating project". For example, when renting a house to store rock cores, he would inflate the rent to embezzle project funds. He even had to issue false invoices to increase printing fees when printing materials, and was found to have defrauded more than 1.128 million yuan of national funds.
