It is not advisable to escape when encountering conflicts

2024-11-01

Recently, a netizen posted a video claiming that a person in charge of the Qujiang New District Planning Bureau in Xi'an secretly escaped through the toilet window when receiving visitors from the public who couldn't answer questions. Later, a staff member of the bureau confirmed that there was indeed a deputy director who had been receiving letters and visits from citizens from around 9am to 1pm, but the citizens never allowed him to leave. Helplessly, he left through the window. The latest development is that the local disciplinary inspection and supervision authorities have arranged to launch an investigation procedure in conjunction with relevant departments, and will adhere to the principles of seeking truth from facts and handling in accordance with laws and regulations. Escaping is not the correct attitude to solve the urgent difficulties and worries of the people. Regarding the cause of the incident, the video publisher stated, 'Demolition is underway near our home, but recent changes in planning have resulted in a change in the geographical location where we were supposed to be allocated housing, which is completely different from the previously proposed plan.'; A staff member of the bureau admitted that "the change in demolition planning is affected by work arrangements" and pointed out that "one of the main issues raised by citizens is that the planned residential areas are too close to high-voltage lines". It is not difficult to find from scattered information that the demolition plan and subsequent changes may be the source of contradictions. It must be acknowledged that formulating demolition plans has the characteristics of involving a large scope, multiple interests, a wide range of personnel, and high public attention, which indeed poses certain difficulties and challenges. Even so, jumping out of the window and escaping cannot be an option for officials to solve such problems. Once you escape, can you evade responsibility? As the saying goes, 'in one's position, seek one's own governance.' As an important official in a functional department, one should naturally remember their responsibilities and be brave enough to take on responsibilities. You should know that the Party places cadres in various positions to fulfill their duties, not to enjoy the benefits of being officials. This basic understanding cannot be lost. Perhaps some people may argue that the director has been receiving the public for four hours, and that planning adjustments cannot be decided by one person alone. If all the boards are hit in one place, it would be too harsh. Indeed, not all difficulties can be solved in the first place, and not all leaders can handle them with ease. However, as the saying goes, 'avoiding trouble for an official is a lifelong shame'. If one cannot solve the problem and becomes a 'deserter', it will undoubtedly lose the dignity of an official and hurt the hearts of the people. Once he escaped, he sounded the alarm, and this outrageous act of fleeing in panic caused endless harm. Firstly, it damages the image of party members and cadres. Adhering to principles and daring to take on responsibilities are the basic qualities that party members and cadres must possess. However, a very small number of officials have a sense of "escape" and fear of difficulties, and dare not confront urgent and pressing issues that affect the immediate interests of the people, which is actually not conducive to long-term governance. Secondly, it may escalate conflicts. In this incident, the officials involved were "walking around in the face of contradictions" and "passive and negligent in their actions". This kind of "dragging on" approach to dealing with problems not only does not help alleviate the negative emotions of the people, but also has the potential to make the contradictions bigger and the people's hearts colder as they drag on. A myriad of complicated matters ultimately boils down to the affairs of thousands of households. As an official, I will not seek refuge or shirk my responsibilities, and exchange my "hard work index" for the "happiness index" of the masses. Regarding the resolution of this matter, it is necessary for officials to open up their voices and actively communicate before the plan is issued, in order to achieve democratic decision-making; When encountering problems that cannot be solved temporarily, it is necessary for officials to promise deadlines, clarify contact persons, and leave room for maneuver. Only in this way can we truly win the trust of the masses. (New Society)
