The third two-day Forum of Chinese and Portuguese Speaking Countries University Presidents opened at the University of Macau on the 30th, with 44 university presidents and representatives from mainland China, Macau, and Portuguese speaking countries participating to discuss the forum's theme "Portuguese in China - Starting from Macau and the Greater Bay Area". The forum is jointly organized by the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, the University of Macau, the Macau Polytechnic University, the Macau University of Science and Technology, the City University of Macau, and the University of Saint Joseph, forming the "Alliance for Cultivating Bilingual Talents in Chinese and Portuguese". During his speech, Gong Zhiming, Director of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, expressed the hope that Macau universities will continue to expand the good relationships and cooperation established over the long term with higher education institutions in mainland China and Portuguese speaking countries, and strive to explore new paths for the cultivation of Sino Portuguese talents in various fields, as well as new directions for Sino Portuguese education and scientific research cooperation. Song Yonghua, president of the University of Macao, said that Macao's universities have always been closely linked with higher education institutions in the mainland and Portuguese speaking countries, and actively build Macao into a "bilingual talent training base in China and Portugal". The President of City University of Macau, Liu Jun, expressed the hope that the forum can promote communication and exchange among universities from different regions, integrate internationalization into university curriculum, research, and teacher-student development, and promote the common development of higher education in mainland China, Macau, and Portuguese speaking countries. After the opening ceremony, the University of Macau signed a cooperation agreement with the University College of Lisbon, and the City University of Macau signed cooperation agreements with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, the State University of Campinas, and the University College of Lisbon to strengthen cooperation on university student exchange programs. On the first day of the forum, sub forums were held with the themes of "Research and Development of Chinese Textbooks from the Perspective of Sino Portuguese Cooperation", "Portuguese Chinese Bilingual Exchange: The Development of Conversation and Language Technology as a Form of Business Cooperation between Macau, the Greater Bay Area, and Portuguese Speaking Countries", and "The Development and Application of Automatic Translation Tools in Portuguese Language Teaching in China". On the 31st, sub forums on "Academic Cooperation between Artificial Intelligence and Higher Education Institutions in Macau, the Greater Bay Area, and Portuguese Speaking Countries" and "Language Technology and Sino Portuguese Cooperation" will be held at the City University of Macau. The Macao SAR government stated that it will continue to deepen and expand scientific research and education cooperation with Portuguese speaking countries, promote the development of universities in line with key industries and internationalization of higher education, actively promote joint training programs with universities outside the region, and systematically enhance the comprehensive ability of local universities and non higher education students to learn Portuguese. At the same time, the Education and Youth Bureau will create conditions to continue supporting Macau students to pursue higher education courses in Portugal, and comprehensively cultivate bilingual and composite talents in both Chinese and Portuguese.
