Up to now, more than 40 universities and vocational colleges, including Tsinghua University, Peking University and Renmin University of China, have successively created nearly 200 micro majors with distinctive characteristics around emerging industries and cutting-edge technologies and other hot fields to break through the boundaries of core majors in interdisciplinary curriculum design, and help students quickly understand and respond to the actual needs of the industry. Micro majors that can learn new knowledge and develop real skills are currently in high demand and are expected to be deeply integrated into the curriculum construction reform of various majors in the future, becoming a beneficial supplement to the mainstream education model. Compared to traditional professional training models, micro majors will leverage their advantages of anchoring cutting-edge demands, specialized courses, and personalized customized training, and demonstrate their strengths in talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural heritage, and international exchanges. Personalized training program design that meets the development needs of various talents. Although micro majors are labeled as "majors", they have more distinct personalized characteristics than major or minor majors. In terms of training methods, micro majors generally have a duration of six months to two years, with 5 to 10 core courses that integrate theoretical teaching and practical training. During the course learning process, students are allowed to flexibly adjust their time according to their personal situation. The efficient and flexible training mode can effectively meet the learning needs of different types of students. In terms of course content, the micro major adheres to a problem oriented approach, mainly combining the actual social needs of emerging interdisciplinary fields to set key course content, helping students to deeply understand the current trends of technological and industrial frontiers, enhance corresponding professional qualities and skills, and open up a window for students to explore new fields beyond their major. Collaborative and multi-party resource docking accelerates the effective implementation of academic achievements. In terms of serving enterprises, micro majors provide a new model for customized skills training for enterprises through comprehensive and multi-level school enterprise cooperation, diverse teaching forms, and rich course content.
