At the 31st China Yangling Agricultural High tech Achievement Expo being held in Shaanxi, Jerry from Sri Lanka shuttled back and forth between booths of different companies, occasionally taking out his phone and exchanging WeChat with new friends. Last year, Jerry opened a trading company in the Yingkou area of China (Liaoning) Pilot Free Trade Zone, with an annual trade volume of 20 million US dollars. This year, he came to Yangling, the location of the SCO Agricultural Technology Exchange and Training Demonstration Base. At the Yangling Agricultural High tech Conference, Jerry identified multiple agricultural drones and planned to import them into Sri Lanka. The development experience of Chinese agriculture is very enlightening for developing countries, and these products are also urgently needed domestically, "he said. As China's first national level agricultural high-tech industry demonstration zone, Yangling, known as the "Agricultural Science City", is becoming a new highland for international agricultural exchange and cooperation. Especially since China established the SCO Agricultural Technology Exchange and Training Demonstration Base in Yangling in 2019, work has been carried out around four key tasks: exchange and training, demonstration, trade, and industrial cooperation. According to Ma Jing, Executive Deputy Director of the Office of the SCO Agricultural Technology Exchange and Training Demonstration Base, as of now, the base has conducted more than 120 sessions of agricultural technology assistance training, special training, etc., training more than 2400 agricultural officials and technical personnel for SCO countries and developing countries, organizing more than 300 officials to participate in poverty reduction special training, and 42000 online learners. In addition, the base has built 10 agricultural science and technology demonstration parks in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries, completed comparative experiments of more than 110 excellent crop varieties, and integrated and demonstrated efficient cultivation techniques. The cumulative radiation area of agricultural technology has reached more than 2 million hectares Ma Jing said. Located in Yangling, Northwest A&F University led the establishment of the SCO National Agricultural University Alliance in 2021. Currently, 21 universities from 8 SCO countries have joined. In Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, Northwest A&F University has established four Silk Road Alliance talent training bases. Professor Zhang Dong from Northwest A&F University has been frequently shuttling between China and Kyrgyzstan recently, busy with the seedling work of apple orchards in Kyrgyzstan. In the future, Chinese apples will enter the lives of more Kyrgyz people, "he said. By using the asexual reproduction technology developed by Zhang Dong to cultivate rootstocks, coupled with a series of management techniques such as promoting branching, these apple seedlings are significantly different from the "relatives" who have been planted for six to seven years and bear fruit in the past. They can bear fruit in the second year after planting, and enter the peak season in the fourth year, with a yield of over 7000 kilograms per mu. Since 2016, Northwest A&F University has established 8 overseas agricultural science and technology demonstration parks in Central Asia and Belarus, promoting new research achievements in the field of agriculture in arid areas. In demonstration parks in Kazakhstan and Belarus, wheat varieties have increased yields by over 20% compared to local varieties; In the Uzbekistan demonstration park, the intelligent water fertilizer integrated irrigation equipment developed by the school has been put into use, increasing crop yields by more than 30% and achieving a water saving rate of up to 50%. Recently, the Institute of Water saving Agriculture in Arid Areas of Northwest A&F University released the "Report on China's Grain Production Water Footprint and Regional Virtual Water Flow (1997-2023)". Zhao Bing, the representative of the World Food Programme in China, said that the solutions to the food and water issues proposed in the report provide reference for other countries and regions facing similar problems in the world. We hope that Chinese research institutions and organizations can participate more in global issues related to food and water resources, and provide more and better solutions for the world. With the continuous expansion of the influence of the initiative of jointly building the "the Belt and Road", the Yangling Agricultural High School Games, known as the "Agricultural Olympics", has become increasingly attractive to foreign farmers. The indoor exhibition of this year's Agricultural High Conference has set up an international agricultural exchange and cooperation exhibition, as well as overseas exhibitions in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Almaty, Kazakhstan. More than 1800 companies from 49 countries, including France and the Netherlands, participated in the exhibition. For the first time, all 26 countries, including 10 member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, 14 dialogue partner countries, and 2 observer countries, participated in the exhibition. Kyrgyzstan businessman Fatima participated in the Yangling Agricultural High School Fair for the first time, bringing a variety of honey products produced in her hometown. Fatima said that her company has sales outlets in Guangzhou, and its products are selling well in Beijing, Dalian, Qingdao and other places. During her visit to Yangling, Fatima plans to take the opportunity to conduct research on the market situation in Shaanxi. "China has a large population, a long-term stable economic growth, and a very broad market space. I am very optimistic about the Chinese market," she said. (New Society)
