Typhoon 'Tanmei' will affect over 80000 fishing boats in Guangdong waters to seek shelter in port

2024-10-25

At 10:00 on October 25th, the Central Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow typhoon warning. The center of this year's 20th typhoon, "Tanmei," is located on the sea about 650 kilometers east of Sansha City, Hainan Province. The maximum wind speed near the center is 10 levels, reaching 25 meters per second. According to the meteorological department's monitoring and forecasting, Typhoon "Tanmei" will move towards the west at a speed of 15-20 kilometers per hour, with a slow increase in intensity, and the strongest one can reach the level of a strong tropical storm or typhoon (10-12 levels, 28-33 meters per second). Due to the combined influence of "Tanmei" and cold air, there will be strong and long-lasting winds in the Taiwan Strait, the central and northern waters of the South China Sea, and the waters of Guangdong Province in the coming days. According to the Emergency Management Department of Guangdong Province, in recent days, Guangdong Province has solidly carried out the defense work against Typhoon Tammy. Coastal cities have conscientiously implemented the work deployment of the Provincial Flood Control Bureau and fully completed the "six hundred percent" measures for preventing typhoons at sea. As of 17:00 on October 24th, all 83600 fishing boats in the province's waters have been sheltered in port; 1617 people from 34 offshore wind power construction platforms, 7222 fishing and aquaculture personnel, and 1145 marine ranch personnel have all been evacuated and brought ashore. The Emergency Management Department of Guangdong Province, together with the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Provincial Meteorological Bureau, issued a warning reminder message to the public in 14 affected coastal cities, with a total of about 130 million people. The Guangdong Maritime Safety Administration has deployed 10 professional rescue ships, 73 high-power tugboats, and 4 professional rescue helicopters along the coast of the province; 304 maritime law enforcement personnel were dispatched, 36 maritime patrol ships were dispatched, and 1038 ships were implemented to prevent wind damage. The reporter learned from the Zhanjiang Maritime Bureau that due to the combined effects of Typhoon "Tanmei" and cold air, the wind speed on the sea surface of the Qiongzhou Strait may increase to level 8 and gusts up to level 10. The passenger roll on/roll off ship in Qiongzhou Strait will be suspended from 14:00 on October 26th and is expected to be suspended until the 28th. The specific resumption time will be notified separately. Drivers and passengers with relevant travel plans should closely monitor weather changes and arrange their travel time reasonably to avoid delaying their itinerary. On the evening of October 24th, the Guangdong Province Typhoon Prevention Work Consultation and Scheduling Meeting pointed out that the main risks in Guangdong Province in the coming days are the adverse effects of strong winds and waves on offshore production operations, which will last for a long time. All relevant regions and departments should tighten their minds and focus on key areas without slackening their efforts, with a sense of responsibility of "never giving up" and a sense of action of "having a bottom line in everything", and make every effort to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
