The new device structure significantly improves the efficiency of perovskite solar cells

Recently, City University of Hong Kong (hereinafter referred to as CityU) has successfully developed a new device structure that can significantly improve the stability and efficiency of perovskite solar cells, simplify production processes, and reduce costs. The relevant research was published in the journal Science. This technology makes the process of producing perovskite solar cells easier and more cost-effective, while extending the lifespan of the cells and further promoting the development of solar energy technology Professor Zhu Zonglong from the Department of Chemistry at Gangcheng University said. Perovskite can efficiently convert sunlight into electrical energy and has shown great potential for applications in multiple fields. To develop a new type of solar cell with longer lifespan and higher conversion efficiency, the research team has developed two new technologies. One is to merge the original hole selection layer and perovskite layer of the battery structure into one, streamlining the production process; Secondly, the electronic transport layer has been replaced with inorganic substance tin dioxide, which has excellent heat resistance, instead of traditional organic substances such as fullerene and bath copper spirit, greatly improving the stability of device operation. Gao Danpeng, who is conducting postdoctoral research at Gangcheng University, stated that the proposed device structure is currently the simplest design in perovskite solar cells and has great advantages in promoting the industrialization of such cells. The innovative technology proposed by the team does not require the conventional organic material transport layer, which can not only effectively reduce the material cost of the production process, but also greatly simplify the production steps. Research shows that after improving the oxygen vacancy defects in the tin dioxide layer, the energy conversion efficiency of the device has exceeded 25%. At the same time, the device can maintain over 95% efficiency even after 2000 hours of continuous operation under strict testing conditions. This performance surpasses traditional perovskite solar cells and meets multiple industry benchmarks for device lifespan. The technology we have developed has the potential to be applied to solar power generation systems within 5 years Zhu Zonglong stated that this research on solar cells will have a profound impact on the global energy market and help accelerate the market's transition to renewable energy. Next, the team will focus on researching how to apply this innovative structure to larger perovskite solar modules, further enhancing the efficiency and scalability of related technologies.
