Adhering to the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations and writing a new chapter of cooperation (Ambassador's essay: Promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind)

Barbados is the earliest country in the Eastern Caribbean region to establish diplomatic relations with China, and also a good friend and partner of China in this region. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 47 years ago, political mutual trust between China and Barbados has been deepening, and cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples. In June 2023, Prime Minister Motley of Barbados paid an official visit to China, during which the leaders of the two countries exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern, as well as shared experiences in governing the country, promoting China Pakistan relations to a new level. Agricultural cooperation is an important aspect of practical cooperation between China and Pakistan. Barbados is rich in sugarcane and relies on imports for its food and vegetables. In 2021, Hunan Province of China signed a memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation with Barbados, focusing on cooperation in vegetable selection and trial planting of upland rice. In 2023, there will be a bountiful harvest of upland rice in Pakistan, with an equivalent yield of 500 kilograms per mu, achieving a breakthrough of zero local upland rice cultivation. This year, the trial planting area of upland rice in Barbados has expanded to 1120 square meters. Barbados President Sandra Prunella Mason attended the opening ceremony of the upland rice trial planting project in July and opened the sickle for the harvesting of upland rice. The trial planting data shows that the local soil, climate, lighting, and rainfall conditions are suitable for the growth of upland rice in China. The successful planting experiment of upland rice has received high praise and recognition from the Barbados government. Prime Minister Motley wrote a letter expressing his great pleasure at seeing the success of the agricultural cooperation project between the two sides. The successful trial planting of upland rice has proven that it is feasible and has broad prospects for cultivation in Barbados, which is conducive to ensuring food security. The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security of Barbados, Indal Weir, stated that implementing any water-saving and sustainable agricultural model in Barbados, where freshwater resources are scarce, is worth exploring. China's successful trial planting of upland rice in Barbados brings new hope for food security. The local mainstream media in Barbados extensively reported on this. Food security is a fundamental issue concerning human survival. To maintain global food security, China adheres to the principle of 'teaching people how to fish'. The Chinese government has made significant progress in the construction of the Barbados Food Security Center project and the Hope Agricultural Training School project. In April of this year, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hunan Province signed a framework agreement for cooperation in upland rice cultivation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Security of Barbados. China will provide various forms of technical training for Barbados' agricultural technicians and local farmers. Both China and Pakistan will continue to promote the implementation of relevant projects and create a new benchmark for friendly cooperation between China and Pakistan. The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC mapped out a grand blueprint to further comprehensively deepen reform and promote Chinese path to modernization, released a clear signal to further expand high-level opening up, and provided new development opportunities for countries around the world, including Barbados. China is willing to work with Pakistan to uphold the original intention of establishing diplomatic ties, carry forward traditional friendship, implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, constantly expand cooperation in infrastructure, agriculture, digital economy, education and health, blue economy and other fields, promote high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road", provide impetus for the sustainable development of bilateral relations, and build a closer China Pakistan community of destiny.
