Green kinetic energy promotes sustainable transportation

2024-10-11

Building a safe, convenient, efficient, green, economical, inclusive, and resilient sustainable transportation system is an important measure to support the high-quality development of the service economy and society, and to achieve the beautiful vision of "people enjoy their travel, goods flow smoothly". Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, technological innovation driven development in the transportation sector has been deeply promoted, the level of green and low-carbon development has steadily improved, and the low altitude economy has grown rapidly, continuously adding new momentum to sustainable transportation development. The Global Sustainable Transport Summit Forum (2024) on the Effective Expansion of New Technology Applications was recently held in Beijing, with representatives from government departments, enterprises, and academia from different countries providing suggestions and recommendations for sustainable transportation development. Song Zhiyong, Director of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, stated at the forum that the new generation of information technology has had a revolutionary impact on the modernization of global transportation and is profoundly changing people's modes of transportation. China has made breakthroughs in key technologies such as autonomous driving, intelligent transportation management, smart logistics, and smart construction. The "China Sustainable Transportation Development Report 2023" shows that with the effective expansion of new technology applications, the intelligence level of transportation equipment in China has improved. The development of CR450 high-speed trains has achieved phased results, and the first domestically produced large cruise ship has been officially delivered. China's independently developed civil aircraft C919 has officially entered commercial operation, and ARJ21 has achieved large-scale operation. At present, China has achieved centimeter level precise positioning of autonomous driving technology vehicles. The first domestically operated container ship, "Zhifei," has conducted a 27000 nautical mile trial run. Intelligent facilities and equipment such as cable climbing robots and intelligent road inspection vehicles have been put into use in the field of intelligent construction. Intelligent traffic management technology realizes real-time monitoring of transportation networks, optimizes traffic flow, and improves transportation efficiency. The application of technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing has great potential in the field of civil aviation Wu Rongxin, Deputy General Manager of China Southern Airlines Group Co., Ltd., gave an example that through artificial intelligence and big data, routes can be intelligently planned, flight paths can be optimized, travel time can be effectively shortened, and ultimately energy conservation and emission reduction can be achieved. Zhang Jun, academician of the CAE Member and secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing University of Technology, believes that the overall trend of the development of the transportation industry is smart transportation. To establish a future transportation characterized by digital perception, ubiquitous interconnection, and intelligent services through the integration of new generation information technology, in order to better create safe, convenient, efficient, green, and economical sustainable transportation. Wang Ning, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transportation, introduced that in terms of perception in the transportation field, Beijing has implemented an overall coding system for transportation QR codes, forming a "set of codes, a cloud, and a network". By utilizing data for scheduling and monitoring public transportation, it helps to ensure smooth operation of public transportation, while sharing and opening up data to the public to assist in planning travel itineraries. The orderly promotion of green and low-carbon transformation "Currently, China's transportation industry is implementing the" dual carbon "strategy, actively promoting the integrated development of transportation and energy, strengthening the coordination of planning and policies, improving the standard and regulatory system, innovating key technological equipment, accelerating the development and utilization of new energy along transportation infrastructure, promoting the replacement of new energy in transportation vehicles, improving the supply system of new energy in transportation, and orderly promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of the transportation industry." said Fei Dongbin, member of the Party Group of the Ministry of Transport of China and Secretary and Director of the Party Group of the National Railway Administration. In recent years, China's transportation sector has made positive progress in green and low-carbon transformation. By the end of 2023, the number of new energy vehicles in China will exceed 20.4 million, with a total of nearly 8.6 million charging infrastructure built. In the field of railways, the proportion of railway electrification in China has reached 73.8%. China is promoting the construction of green transportation infrastructure and advancing the green and low-carbon transformation of transportation. As the world's first "smart zero carbon" terminal, Tianjin Port Beijiang Port Area C intelligent container terminal was officially put into operation in 2021. At the zero carbon terminal site, the reporter saw unmanned artificial intelligence transportation robots loading containers and driving smoothly and orderly in the area. The person in charge of Tianjin Port explained that all the kinetic energy of these robots comes from the "green electricity" at the port. At present, the zero carbon terminal has a total of 5 wind turbines and 16000 square meters of photovoltaic panels. The depth and breadth of the integration of new energy and transportation in China are still expanding, and the road to sustainable transportation driven by green energy is long and arduous Lu Junling, Chief Economist of the National Energy Administration, stated that the integration of transportation and energy should focus on innovative research and development of key technologies. Following the integration of industry, academia, research, and application, technological research should be carried out in key demand areas such as long-range power batteries, fast charging piles, electric heavy-duty trucks, and hydrogen fuel cells. At the same time, we will actively promote the research, demonstration, and scale development of wind solar hydrogen production, hydrogen storage and transportation, biomass fuel, and DC distribution networks, and smooth the economic realization path of the application of new energy in the transportation field. The low altitude economy is growing rapidly. Currently, the low altitude economy based on traditional general aviation and new unmanned aerial vehicle industries is flourishing in China. By the end of 2023, there will be 689 aviation enterprises and 451 general airports in China. According to estimates, the scale of China's low altitude economy exceeded 500 billion yuan last year, and it is expected to reach 2 trillion yuan by 2030. Song Zhiyong stated that with the continuous expansion of new technologies in the low altitude field such as drones in China, the low altitude economy is further developing towards unmanned, intelligent, collaborative, and green directions. The development direction of low altitude economy coincides with the connotation of sustainable transportation, and its rapid growth is expected to become a new driving force for promoting sustainable transportation development. Currently, many provinces across the country are planning their layout and vigorously developing the low altitude economy. Li Zhong, Vice Governor of Anhui Province, introduced that Anhui has basically formed a low altitude industry cluster with the general aviation industry as the main body and the drone industry as the support. In the fields of urban management, public services, cultural and tourism consumption, Anhui has launched a number of market-oriented application scenarios, such as unmanned aerial vehicle medical supplies transportation, emergency rescue air channels, and delivery of food by unmanned aerial vehicles, which are constantly expanding. Hefei, Wuhu and other places have opened 20 UAV postal logistics routes, and Mount Huangshan, Lu'an and other places have more than 10000 helicopter low altitude tours this summer. In recent years, Xiaopeng Motors has actively explored the development of low altitude travel products and expanded the application scenarios of low altitude economy. Chen Han, Vice President of Xiaopeng Motors, introduced the world's first split type flying car launched by Xiaopeng Motors - the Land Carrier, which can automatically separate and combine the land and flying bodies through one click operation. Next, with the continuous expansion of low altitude economic application scenarios and the emergence of new technologies, more solutions will be provided for emergency rescue, logistics distribution and other fields.
