Recently, the Tashilhunpo Temple in Shigatse, Xizang held a "Semochim Qiangmu" God Dance to ward off evil spirits and disasters, and pray for peace and prosperity in the country and the people. Jumping God is a religious dance performed by monks, known as "Qiangmu" in Tibetan. "Semochim Qiangmu" refers specifically to the Tibetan Buddhism Gelug sect Qiangmu performed by the monks of Tashilhunpo Temple in Shigatse, Xizang. In Tibetan, "Semo" means to watch, "Qinmu" means to watch large religious dances, and "Semo Qinmu Qiangmu" means to watch large religious dances. At around 10 o'clock, the jumping activity officially began. The monks of Tashilhunpo Monastery wear masks and costumes, hold various props, and perform divine dances one by one with the accompaniment of a band composed of monks, creating a solemn and mysterious atmosphere. The monks and laypeople in the crowd stared intently at the stage, reciting scriptures and praying for world peace, national prosperity, and good weather. There is a strict procedure for performing God of Dance, with a slow and solemn rhythm. In order to liven up the scene, two "Bo" and "Mo" (i.e. grandpa and grandma) dressed in Tibetan costumes appear at any time between each episode, imitating the comical movements of various characters in a mime style, and the scene is filled with laughter. Many domestic and foreign tourists also come here to watch. Ms. Wu from Sichuan said that her group of five had just arrived in Shigatse that day and heard about a jumping activity at Zhashilunbu Temple. They quickly took a look. According to the introduction, this is a national intangible cultural heritage. It is an honor to watch such an event on site. In 2006, Zhashilunbu Temple Qiangmu was listed as the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage. Zhashilunbu Temple Kanbu Gaqin Duojijianzan introduced that the "Semochim Qiangmu" ceremony is usually held in August of the Tibetan calendar every year, aiming to pray for blessings for sentient beings and pray for national prosperity and people's peace.
