Russian media explains in detail that the "cube" drone has outstanding cluster strike capability

2024-10-08

According to a recent report on the website of Russian television, the Russian State Technology Corporation announced that the "Cube" suicide drone can launch cluster strikes against enemies. In addition, before launching an attack, the drone can hover over a specific location to attack the target at the best time. The company pointed out that it has produced thousands of such drones and put them into actual combat. Analysts say that the cluster strike function enhances the drone's ability to break through air defense systems, allowing it to cause greater damage to enemy targets. Retired Russian Colonel Anatoly Matvychuk explained that sometimes the target is not a single facility, there may be multiple aiming points. Cluster strikes can cause maximum damage to such targets, rendering them paralyzed. The Russian State Technology Corporation stated that traditional air defense weapons are difficult and costly to combat against "cube" drones, as modern air defense systems and their ammunition are very expensive. Matvichuk said, "The more advanced the air defense weapon technology is today, the more expensive it is. For example, it is not cost-effective to use missiles worth $1 million to deal with drones worth $25000." According to reports, the "Cube" drone was launched by Kalashnikov (a subsidiary of the Russian State Technology Corporation) and developed by its subsidiary Zara. This weapon is used to kill the enemy's living forces, military equipment, and radar. Sergei Chemezov, President of the Russian State Technology Corporation, told Russian President Putin in July this year that the advantages of this system are covert launch, high precision, noiseless, and easy operation. The report stated that the "cube" drone demonstrated high efficiency in killing enemy living forces. The drone warhead is made of explosive material with a power 50% greater than that of trinitrotoluene (TNT) explosive, and carries a large amount of fragments. The Russian State Technology Corporation emphasized that the high lethality of warhead explosions renders defense equipment almost useless. In addition, the "cube" drone has high accuracy and can destroy enemy targets regardless of the terrain. The developer introduced during a project presentation in 2019 that this drone can fly at speeds of 80 to 130 kilometers per hour for 30 minutes, with an effective payload of 3 kilograms, and is launched using a special catapult. After the delivery of the drone began, the developers immediately began to modify it. At the end of 2023, Kalashnikov CEO Alan Lushnikov announced that the first batch of "cube" drones with higher warhead power had been delivered to the military. This modification is manufactured according to military requirements and is almost a new product. Later, it was reported that the "Cube" drone could hit targets at a distance of over 50 kilometers. At present, Kalashnikov Company is still improving its products. For example, developers are introducing neural networks into the work of drones. Alan Lushnikov said in an interview with TASS in August, "We are researching the use of automatic target indication systems in guided cruise missiles during the final stages of flight. This is one of the important directions for transforming our products." Russian State Technology Corporation emphasized that high-tech production of unmanned attack aircraft is expanding year by year, making it possible to increase production to meet military needs. In February of this year, it was reported that Izhevsk Unmanned Systems, which produces "cube" and "superluminal particle" drones, will increase its production tenfold this year. Matvichuk stated that the Russian military industrial complex will continue to increase the production of "cube" drones and other drones to meet the needs of the Russian military. The expert said, "Drones are the future. They are used by the smallest forces and strategic clusters. Each drone has its own purpose. I believe that unmanned aerial vehicles will continue to be updated, and their production will increase as needed
