The incidence rate of cervical cancer continues to increase and shows a trend of youth. The Health Talk Show specially talks about HPV

2024-09-30

In recent years, the incidence rate of cervical cancer continues to increase and presents a young trend. Almost all cervical cancer (99.7%) is related to HPV infection. It is crucial to thoroughly popularize health knowledge related to HPV infection and prevention. On September 29th, the 2024 "Health Talk Show" HPV (Human Papillomavirus) Science Popularization Special was held, hosted by Shanghai Education Television and Shanghai Health Channel, and supported by Merck China. A total of six talk show guests from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and clinical experts participated in the recording, calling on the public to pay attention to the risk of HPV infection in the form of talk show science popularization. Professor Fu Hua, from the School of Public Health at Fudan University and President of the Shanghai School Health Care Association, stated that in recent years, China has actively promoted the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer. The "Health Talk Show" dedicated to HPV has invited guests from disease control and clinical departments to share their knowledge and demonstrate the relationship between different departments and positions and HPV prevention. It highlights that the risk of HPV infection is closely related to our daily lives and needs to be taken seriously. As a chief surgeon, sometimes I joke that my main job is to cut a tumor; Today, I want to say that disease prevention is like cutting a knife at the source of the virus. I wish everyone health and try to avoid coming to the hospital to see us in the future. Our body is like a house, and our immune system is like a landlord. If we discover a bad visitor like the virus, the landlord should drive us out as soon as possible! True HPV prevention must be achieved through a combination of men and women, achieving twice the result with half the effort. We should achieve 'men and women know'! "Three clinical experts from different hospitals and departments - Qin Xingjun from the Department of Oral, Maxillofacial, Head and Neck Oncology, Hu Yang from the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and Zhu Yiping from the Department of Urology, explained the risk and harm of HPV infection from their respective daily work. The sentence is:. Sexual activity is the main route of HPV infection, but it is not the only route. Skin mucosal contact is one of them. HPV is a virus that easily infects the human epidermis and mucosal squamous epithelium. It can survive on the skin and mucosa, and the infection sites include the mouth, throat, penile skin, external genitalia, anus, vagina, cervix, and rectum. A study based on the American population shows that among people who have at least one heterosexual partner, the average probability of HPV infection in their lifetime is 84.6% (range: 53.6% – 95.0%) for women and 91.3% (range: 69.5 – 97.7%) for men. After HPV infection, most cases can be cleared by the immune mechanism, so most HPV infections are transient and asymptomatic. However, persistent infection with certain types of HPV can lead to precancerous lesions. Besides the cervix, HPV can also infect other parts of the body such as the mouth, throat, skin, and anus, which may trigger corresponding tumors. Deng Pengfei, Wang Xinyue, and Du Jiaxi, three representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, addressed common questions and misconceptions faced by the public in their work, calling on everyone to not only understand HPV knowledge, but also how to "arm" their own health. Professor Zhou Pingyu, an expert from the Dermatology Department of Xinhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and the WHO (World Health Organization) Sexually Transmitted Disease Strategy and Technical Advisory Committee, stated that using talk shows to remind and establish correct HPV protection awareness can encourage more people to spontaneously pay attention to risks and take health actions.
