On September 22nd, the United Nations Future Summit Action Day side event was held online. The theme of the side event is "Digital Identity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence", focusing on the urgent issue of how to create a global digital identity framework in the era of rapid AI development. Li Yuhang, Executive Director of the World Academy of Digital Sciences (WDTA) and Advisor to the Chair of the United Nations Science and Technology Commission, outlined the key requirements for a global digital identity framework: emphasizing privacy, security, and seamless integration in an AI driven world. He advocates for ensuring ethical and inclusive digital identity governance on a global scale. Li Yuhang announced at the meeting that the World Academy of Digital Sciences has launched the "Artificial Intelligence Secure, Trusted, and Responsible" (AI STR) certification program. This plan will ensure that AI systems adhere to the highest safety and ethical standards at all stages, from design, development to practical application, by establishing strict international standards. It is reported that WDTA has released three AI STR standards, including the "Generative Artificial Intelligence Application Security Testing Standard", "Large Language Model Security Testing Method", and "Large Model Supply Chain Security Requirements". Xu Ting, Vice Chairman of WDTA, announced that from today on, the Chinese name of WDTA will be "World Academy of Digital Sciences", while retaining "World Academy of Digital Technology" as a nickname to emphasize the deep integration and innovative development of science and technology, engineering, and projects. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres stated that UN 2.0 will prioritize digitization, highlighting the necessity of global digital solutions as AI reshapes the future. UN General Assembly President Philemon Young emphasized the necessity of international cooperation in addressing the ongoing technological revolution. UN system coordinator in China, Chang Qide, called on the international community to strengthen cooperation, build a secure and inclusive digital identity system, promote responsible application of technology, and safeguard human rights and privacy. Chen Qingquan, an academician of the CAE Member and WDTA, stressed that building a globally unified digital identity framework will help promote the development of the AI standard system, promote the balance between technology and ethics, and ensure that science and technology serve humanity responsibly. New York University professor Gary Markus pointed out the current shortcomings and potential risks of AI, emphasizing the need for policy intervention, transparency, independent supervision, and the development of global standards for AI to ensure responsible use of AI technology and avoid long-term risks. Peter Major, founding chairman of WDTA and representative of Hungary, pointed out that this side event is crucial in shaping a comprehensive global digital identity strategy and will help bridge the gap between digital identity and physical identity.
