The second "China Portuguese Speaking Countries Central Banks and Financiers Conference" was held on the 23rd. Representatives of central bank governors, deputy governors, and governors from China and nine Portuguese speaking countries gathered in Macau to share their experiences and views on maintaining financial stability and promoting financial innovation, and to explore opportunities for cooperation between China and Portuguese speaking countries in the fields of finance, fintech, payment systems, and more. In his welcoming speech, He Yicheng stated that the SAR government has been committed to building a China Portugal financial service platform for many years. This conference is another international level large-scale event after the ministerial meeting of the China Portugal Forum in April this year, fully demonstrating Macau's platform role and international influence. The Macao Monetary Authority is cooperating with the Digital Currency Institute affiliated to the People's Bank of China to promote the digital Macao dollar research and development project, and plans to hold a public demonstration of the prototype system of the digital Macao dollar project at the end of the year to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland. Pan Gongsheng delivered the opening keynote speech, introducing the overall deployment of China's economic situation and financial industry opening up to the outside world, and sharing the situation of financial cooperation between China and Portuguese speaking countries, as well as the viewpoint of financial support for the moderate diversified development of Macao's economy. Nine central bank governors and representatives from Portuguese speaking countries shared their experiences and perspectives on topics such as the role of central banks, Sino Portuguese financial cooperation, fintech innovation, central bank digital currencies, and digital financial services. At the meeting, the Macau Monetary Authority exchanged its first cooperation agreement with the Central Bank of Brazil and signed updated cooperation agreements with the Bank of Cape Verde and the Bank of Mozambique. The conference was hosted by the Macau Monetary Authority and invited about 300 representatives from the financial departments of the central government and various cities in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, five major state-owned commercial banks, policy banks, Chinese financial institutions with branches in Portuguese speaking countries, financial industry associations in Portuguese speaking countries, as well as local financial and professional institutions.
