Recently, a video has appeared on multiple online platforms, with the video publisher stating in the title, "Today, a serious traffic accident occurred on the Third Ring Road in Chengdu, resulting in 8 deaths and 6 injuries. From the video, it can be seen that there were indeed multiple cars colliding at the scene, and the appearance of the vehicles was severely damaged. Many people felt at first glance that this was indeed a very serious traffic accident. Once the video was released, it quickly attracted widespread attention. But is it really the case? Is it true that there were 8 deaths and 6 injuries in a traffic accident reported online in Chengdu? Li Guang, Deputy Captain of the Network Security Brigade of the High tech Zone Branch of Chengdu Public Security Bureau: The video content shows the scene of a traffic accident, and the accompanying text reads "Serious traffic accident on Chengdu Third Ring Road, 8 deaths and 6 injuries". After seeing this information, we felt that it was not very true, so we immediately went to verify with the relevant departments. After investigation by the police, the traffic accident reported in the online video occurred on the main road of the South Third Ring Road in Chengdu. At that time, there were indeed 4 cars colliding and causing temporary traffic interruption. The accident resulted in 5 passengers being injured to varying degrees, but no fatalities occurred. The third ring road is one of the most important main roads in Chengdu and a must pass route for many local residents to commute, fabricated by internet bloggers who claim to have "8 deaths and 6 injuries". After the video blogger spread the rumor of "8 deaths and 6 injuries", it immediately attracted the attention of netizens. Who released the rumor video of "8 deaths and 6 injuries"? What is the purpose of publishing? The Chengdu police investigation found that the rumor video was posted by a freight driver named Long from the High tech Zone. On the day of the traffic accident on the Third Ring Road on June 3rd, Long happened to pass by this place and witnessed the scene of the accident. Zhang Xuan, a police officer from Shiyang Police Station, High tech Zone Branch of Chengdu Public Security Bureau: Long claimed to have seen the video of the traffic accident online and confessed to the caption "8 deaths and 6 injuries". At the same time, she also admitted that she did not know the specific situation of the traffic accident at that time. According to the police, Long registered a short video account in 2020 and mainly posts content about daily life, with not many people following and browsing it. On June 3rd, she saw a traffic accident on the Third Ring Road. Long downloaded relevant videos online for the purpose of showing off and attracting attention, edited them, and fabricated false information of "8 deaths and 6 injuries". Zhang Xuan, a police officer from Shiyang Police Station, High tech Zone Branch of Chengdu Public Security Bureau: According to her own description, the video related to her was on an online platform. While browsing, she found a related video and downloaded it. After editing it herself, she posted it on another online platform. The phrase '8 deaths and 6 injuries' was just something she came across online or heard from hearsay, and she improvised it on her own. Restoring the routine of online bloggers spreading rumors about hot events, car accidents are one of the highly concerned hot events in society. Some rumor mongers exaggerate or fabricate the number of casualties and losses in order to attract attention or achieve other improper purposes. This behavior not only causes secondary harm to the victims and their families, but also triggers public questioning and dissatisfaction with the handling of the accident, thereby seriously disrupting social order and causing adverse effects. The tricks of internet bloggers who fabricate rumors of "8 deaths and 6 injuries" mainly include the following steps: first, discovering hot events: the rumor monger passes by the scene of a traffic accident and collects and downloads relevant video content on the internet, using these videos as her material for spreading rumors; The second is to fabricate false facts: in order to attract attention and increase the impact of the video, the rumor mongers exaggerate the severity of the traffic accident, exaggerating "5 passengers were injured to varying degrees" as "8 deaths and 6 injuries"; The third is to use editing skills and music to create an atmosphere: rumor mongers edit relevant video footage, add fast-paced and intense music and false textual descriptions, and then publish them on online platforms to attract more attention and browsing. In response to Long's illegal act of fabricating false information and spreading rumors to disrupt public order, the Chengdu police have imposed administrative penalties on Long in accordance with the Law of the People's Republic of China on Public Security Administration Punishments. Li Guang, Deputy Chief of the Network Security Brigade of the High tech Zone Branch of Chengdu Public Security Bureau: Do not blindly believe and spread unverified information. When we see suspicious information on social media or the internet, we can verify it first or wait for official news to be released before making a judgment. At the same time, we should actively participate in online supervision, report and refute rumors and false information discovered. News link: These are all rumors. Recently, what other rumors have been fabricated by internet bloggers to attract attention? Let's uncover the truth and shatter rumors together! On July 2nd, a text and image of "Shanghai's tight finances borrowing 10 billion yuan from temples" spread on various online platforms, attracting the attention of netizens and briefly trending. According to the investigation of the Shanghai police, on July 1, the suspect Sun Moumin fabricated the content of "Shanghai's financial stress borrows 10 billion yuan from temples", searched the names of some temples in Shanghai from the Internet, and then sent them to friends through WeChat, which eventually led to the spread of rumors and formed a bad social impact. At present, the suspect Sun Moumin has been approved for arrest by the procuratorial organ in accordance with the law because of his suspicion of causing trouble. The case is under further investigation. Changzhou woman Mao fabricated and spread rumors that a series of explosions burned down the basement while charging a tram in a residential area in Hutang, in order to attract attention and gain traffic. On August 26th, the Wujin police in Changzhou reported that Mao confessed to the illegal act of fabricating and spreading rumors, admitting to fabricating hot news in Huizhou, Guangdong as local events and spreading online rumors to gain public attention. Currently, Mao has been administratively punished by the police. On August 27th, a netizen in Chongqing posted a video with the caption "Don't come to Chongqing for tourism recently, traffic lights are all on", which attracted attention. After verification with the Chongqing police, the video circulating online was actually a scene of a traffic light at a junction in another province igniting at high temperatures on the morning of July 17, 2017. The fire department quickly extinguished the flames. The netizen fabricated the rumor that "Chongqing traffic lights are on fire" maliciously by transplanting the incident. At present, the rumor clues have been handed over to relevant departments for further investigation and disposal of the rumor mongers. (New Society)
