The 2024 Fig Culture and Tourism Month in Weihai Economic and Technological Development Zone, Shandong Province has recently been launched. Fig industry experts, representatives of cultural and tourism enterprises, growers, and others have entered the orchard together to explore the autumn "fruit aroma". Fig is a characteristic agricultural product of Weihai, Shandong. In recent years, Weihai Economic and Technological Development Zone has made the development of fig industry a key focus of rural revitalization. Relying on 23000 acres of high-quality fig resources, it has built 12 large-scale planting areas such as Motianling and Haixitou, forming a new pattern of fresh fruit planting, deep processing, and integrated development of agriculture, culture, and tourism. Entering the fig orchard in Gushan Town, Weihai Economic and Technological Development Zone, a refreshing fragrance wafted through the air. The branches were covered with ripe fruits, and the fruit farmers were busy picking, sorting, and shipping figs. Recently, six cold chain transport vehicles loaded with 10 tons of Weihai figs headed to Shanghai, embarking on a "sweet journey" across mountains and rivers. This departure is an important measure for Weihai to promote the entry of fig specialty agricultural products into the high-end market. Xu Ping, the chairman of the People's Congress of Gushan Town, said that for a long time, figs have been unable to leave or travel far due to their inability to withstand storage and transportation. In recent years, the local area has actively developed fig preservation technology. After repeated experiments, the problems in picking, packaging, pre cooling, and transportation have been solved, allowing the "fig girl" to "marry" from Gushan and sell to various parts of the country. Since the implementation of new technologies and models one year ago, the income of local fruit farmers has increased by 30% compared to before. At the same time, Weihai Economic and Technological Development Zone has closely integrated the fig industry with "rural tourism", planning and creating new formats such as camping, homestay, seaside tourism, and picking tourism, organically connecting high-quality cultural and tourism resources such as mountains, seas, forests, and sands. During the Fig Culture Tourism Month event, local fruit farmers also competed on-site for the title of "Fig King". Processed products such as dried figs, fig mooncakes, fig juice, fig cakes, fig flower cakes, fig enzyme drinks, etc. attract tourists to taste. (New Society)
