The 5th China New Zealand Ministerial Dialogue on Climate Change was successfully held in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. Chinese Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu and New Zealand Minister of Climate Change Watts attended together. Both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on their respective climate policies, bilateral pragmatic cooperation, global climate governance, and other issues, proposing to deepen cooperation in areas such as carbon emissions trading and green finance. Huang Runqiu introduced China's policies, actions, and progress in addressing climate change, elaborated on its stance on participating in multilateral processes such as climate change, biodiversity, and plastic pollution, and put forward specific suggestions for further deepening the bilateral climate policy dialogue and practical cooperation between China and Singapore in areas such as carbon emissions trading, green finance, and nature based solutions. He hoped that Singapore would provide convenient support for Chinese enterprises to carry out new green and low-carbon businesses. Watts shared the latest climate strategy, work priorities, and action progress of the New Zealand government, appreciated the effectiveness of China's climate action and leadership in multilateral processes, and expressed willingness to strengthen policy exchanges and practical cooperation with China in areas such as carbon markets, renewable energy, electric vehicles, green finance, and nature based solutions. New Zealand welcomes the further development of China's new energy industry, injecting new impetus into the global low-carbon transformation, and also welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest and cooperate in new areas. Both sides agree that we should implement the consensus reached by the leaders of China and Singapore, work together with the international community to address the challenges of climate change, and inject confidence and momentum into the multilateral climate process. Both sides will strengthen policy dialogue and communication coordination, explore updating bilateral climate cooperation documents, and share opportunities for green and low-carbon transformation and development brought about by climate change. At the invitation of Watts, Huang Runqiu led a delegation to visit New Zealand from August 26th to 28th. During his visit to New Zealand, Huang Runqiu also had dialogues and exchanges with representatives from the New Zealand Geothermal Association and the Institute of Geology and Nuclear Science, exchanging views on topics such as low-carbon city construction, climate change adaptation, water environment protection, and geothermal energy development.
