As of the end of last year, China's agricultural technology demonstration centers in Africa have promoted over 300 advanced agricultural technologies, benefiting more than one million small farmers - China Africa agricultural cooperation, jointly drawing up a blueprint for poverty reduction and development in Africa (China Africa cooperation in the new era). In recent years, China Africa agricultural cooperation has flourished, with agricultural expert technical assistance and training, advanced agricultural technology transfer, construction of agricultural parks, and promotion of crop planting projects such as mushroom grass and hybrid rice achieving significant results, enriching the "food bag" and "vegetable basket" of African people, and helping to steadily promote agricultural modernization in Africa. Looking ahead to the future, China will continue to implement the "China's Assistance to African Agricultural Modernization Plan", explore new paths of cooperation with Africa, comprehensively promote agricultural cooperation, and jointly draw a blueprint for poverty reduction and development in Africa. Inflate the "grain bag" and enrich the "vegetable basket". In August, the East African Plateau is clear after the rain. Chinese experts are testing the cultivation of Chinese foxtail millet in the fields of villager Julius' home in Qinabura Village, Luvero District, Uganda. Xiaomi varieties from China have abundant seeds, and compared to local varieties in Uganda, not only have their yields doubled, but their growth cycles have also been significantly shortened. In recent years, their popularity in Uganda has been increasing. Upon hearing the news of the arrival of Chinese experts, over 10 villagers rushed over. Boom boom, dada dada... "As the seeder brought by Chinese experts drove by, the seeds were evenly scattered into the soft soil, and three Chinese foxtail millet varieties were sown. With the guidance of Chinese experts, there will definitely be a good harvest this year! "Julia's heart was filled with anticipation. In October 2012, the China United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization Uganda South South Cooperation Project, organized and implemented by the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, was officially launched. It has been implemented for three phases and has carried out demonstration planting of Chinese foxtail millet in 26 villages in 11 districts of Uganda. According to Owen, the village chief of Segre Village in Tororo District, Uganda, after two phases of demonstration, more than 10 households in the village have joined planting, with an average income increase of nearly 2.5 million Ugandan shillings (about 4800 yuan) per household. "Life is becoming more and more hopeful!" In the Naliu Rice Demonstration Zone near Burkina Faso's National Highway 1 on the west side of the African continent, 50 hectares of rice are entering the heading stage and growing well. By using Chinese technology, the growth of rice has been particularly good and the yield has been greatly increased, "said Tian Dijibu'er, a rice planting technician in Naliu Village. For over 6 years, the agricultural technology expert group of China's aid to Burkina Faso has promoted Chinese rice cultivation techniques here. Not only has the rice yield in the demonstration area reached two to three times the local average yield, but three excellent Chinese rice varieties suitable for local cultivation have also been introduced and screened. When it comes to the changes that have taken place in the village, the village chief of Naliu Village, Ziendehebedogo Sara, couldn't help but feel delighted: "The cooperation with Chinese agricultural experts has greatly promoted the development of agriculture here." Chinese foxtail millet and hybrid rice have been continuously rooted and produced full seeds in the vast fields of Africa, which is a microcosm of China's help to solve the food security problems and improve the food crisis of African people. China has helped African countries increase their food production, and a set of data is highly convincing: China's hybrid rice has "taken root" in more than 20 African countries, driving the average rice production in many countries from 2 tons per hectare to 7.5 tons; The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has distributed over 1000 green super rice materials to 9 African countries, with a cumulative promotion area of 57000 hectares and a yield increase of over 20% compared to local varieties; The Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences has promoted the "South China No. 5" cassava to Africa, with a yield level four times higher than local varieties... Samba Ndiaobena Ka, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Facilities and Food Security of Senegal, highly praised the achievements of Senegal China agricultural cooperation: "Senegal China agricultural cooperation is comprehensive, not only improving Senegal's agricultural production efficiency, but also enhancing the quality of life of local farmers." In the future, China will also build a China Africa Tropical Agriculture Overseas Science and Technology Center to demonstrate and promote new cassava varieties and technologies in Africa, covering more than 500000 hectares; Collaborate with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on projects related to the enhancement of the rice value chain, sustainable transformation of the food system, and soil health; Collaborate with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to launch the "One Country, One Product: Global Action for Green Development of Featured Agricultural Products" in African countries. China has played an important role in the modernization of agriculture in Africa Rahmantala Osman, Permanent Representative of the African Union Representative Office in China, said that China's technological advantages and policy expertise provide African countries with easy to understand and learn experience, which not only helps promote sustainable development of African agricultural production, but also drives farmers to increase their income and become prosperous. Build a talent pool and enhance innovation. My company can produce 600 kilograms of fresh mushrooms per week, not only for the local market, but also for export to countries such as Tanzania, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2014, Rwandan youth Leonidas Mushimiimana founded an edible mushroom cultivation workshop in the capital Kigali, driving more than 60 households in the village onto the path of poverty alleviation. When it comes to the reasons for entrepreneurship, Mushimiimana said that the motivation came from his participation in the 2013 China Aid Rwanda Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center and the mushroom and grass technology training courses organized by Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University in China. Due to its low cost and fast effectiveness, mushroom grass technology is particularly favored by African countries and has been successfully promoted in countries such as the Central African Republic and Rwanda. The mushroom grass technology demonstration base has been established in 7 African countries, and many African students have become leaders in poverty alleviation and wealth creation in the local areas. According to the first three-year plan of the 2035 Vision for China Africa Cooperation, China has dispatched over 500 agricultural experts to Africa and trained nearly 9000 agricultural talents. As of the end of last year, China has established 24 agricultural technology demonstration centers in Africa, promoting more than 300 advanced agricultural technologies such as corn planting, vegetable cultivation, and rapid cassava breeding, benefiting over one million small farmers in Africa and providing strong support for the modernization process of African agriculture. Technological innovation is an important driving force for leading the modernization of agriculture in China and Africa, and also an important component of China Africa agricultural cooperation. Strengthening deep cooperation between China and Africa in agricultural technology innovation, technology transfer, and capacity building, injecting new impetus into the sustainable development of African agriculture. The China Kenya "the Belt and Road" Joint Laboratory of Crop Molecular Biology was established in 2016, bringing together agricultural experts and talents from China and Kenya, using advanced molecular biology technology to detect the resistance genes of crops, screen and cultivate better seeds. In the past, the agricultural and horticultural technologies used in Kenya came from Europe, and the managers of large farms were all Europeans. Now, with the help of China, we have also mastered the technology ourselves, "sighed Kenyan agricultural expert Richard Mulois. In November 2023, at the 2nd China Africa Agricultural Cooperation Forum held in Hainan, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences launched the "China Africa Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance" initiative. Through collaborative research, exchange of germplasm resources, and joint capacity building, it will effectively promote scientific and technological innovation and agricultural development, "said Leila Barnaba Lokosan, Senior Technical Advisor of the African Union Commission. With this new platform, agricultural research forces in Africa and Central Africa will focus on more practical problems for research and obtain solutions. According to the data of teaching the "Getting Rich Classic" and broadening the "Getting Rich Road", under the poverty reduction and agricultural benefit project of the "Nine Projects" jointly implemented by China and Africa, China has initiated 47 poverty reduction and agricultural projects, including providing agricultural technical assistance to Malawi, Burundi and Cote d'Ivoire. China's poverty reduction experience is helping more African countries achieve sustainable development. In Linge 4 Village, Jihanga County, Bubanza Province, Burundi, the Chinese expert group innovatively explored the mode of promoting hybrid rice planting with the "productive investment fund", driving all 1072 people from 134 households out of poverty. This poverty reduction model was then successfully promoted in 56 poverty reduction demonstration villages in Burundi, achieving an average annual increase of 28000 tons of rice and an increase of 5.6 million US dollars. The government of Burundi has included "relying on the rice high-yield technology of the agricultural aid group to help alleviate poverty" in the national agricultural development plan. In the Ziwenba area of West Mashonaland province in Zimbabwe, the Chinese expert group adheres to the principle of voluntary and autonomous operation of farmers, establishes cooperatives with villagers, implements integrated planting and breeding projects, establishes paired assistance relationships, and systematically teaches planting and breeding techniques such as corn, free range chickens, and meat rabbits, greatly improving the production and living conditions of villagers. Thanks to tangible results, the poverty reduction demonstration village case in Zimbabwe was awarded the third Global Best Poverty Reduction Case. The first demonstration village for agricultural development and poverty reduction in Central Africa in Kenya is currently under construction in Matangitisa Village, Nakuru County. The project adopts the working method of "demonstration farmers taking the lead, other farmers following suit" to promote new varieties of grain beans and various advanced practical agricultural technologies urgently needed in the local area, promoting local farmers' income increase and poverty reduction. China has always regarded supporting the development of agriculture and food security in Africa as a priority area for cooperation with Africa. Through assisting in the construction of agricultural infrastructure, dispatching agricultural experts, providing emergency food aid, agricultural materials, foreign aid training, and trilateral cooperation, China continues to support the sustainable development of agriculture and food security in Africa. Looking ahead to the future, China will continue to help Africa expand its food crop cultivation, encourage Chinese enterprises to increase investment in non-agricultural areas, strengthen agricultural technology cooperation in the seed industry, promote the transformation and upgrading of African agriculture, and assist African countries in poverty reduction and development.
