The reporter learned from the China Geological Survey that two new minerals discovered, named, and declared by Chinese scientists - fluorocarbon calcium neodymium mine and Juxing copper mine - have recently been approved by the International Mineralogical Association's New Mineral Naming and Classification Committee. Fluorocarbon calcium neodymium ore was discovered by researcher Fan Chenzi from the National Geological Experimental Testing Center, in collaboration with the Institute of Mineral Resources of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Central South University, and other institutions, at the Bayan Obo mine in Inner Mongolia. It is reported that the Bayan Obo mine in Inner Mongolia is the world's largest rare earth deposit and a treasure trove of mineral resources in China, with over 210 types of minerals discovered so far. The discovery of fluorocarbon calcium neodymium ore this time is the 21st new mineral discovered in the deposit. Neodymium, as a leader in the rare earth element family today, plays an extremely important role in promoting the application of rare earths in high-tech fields such as permanent magnet materials and laser materials. The newly discovered fluorocarbon calcium neodymium ore belongs to the calcium rare earth fluorocarbon carbonate series minerals and is an important mineral raw material for neodymium resources. The discovery of this new mineral is of great significance for enriching the basic theoretical knowledge of rare earth fluoride carbonate mineralogy, understanding the occurrence and substitution mechanisms of rare earth elements in Bayan Obo, and understanding the formation and evolution of mineral deposits, element occurrence states, element migration, enrichment mechanisms, etc. Juxing copper deposit was found in the world-class porphyry skarn type giant copper polymetallic deposit in Jiama, Xizang. The discoverers were Gu Fenghua, assistant researcher of the Institute of Mineral Resources, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Zhang Yongmei, associate professor of China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Gu Xiangping, professor of Jiangxi Institute of Applied Science and Technology/Central South University, and Fan Guang, researcher of the Institute of Nuclear Industry Geology. It is understood that the Juxing copper mine is a complex metal sulfide, opaque, and has a metallic luster. Preliminary studies have shown that Juxing Copper Mine is an important gold and silver bearing mineral with a complex structure, and its formation is closely related to the mineralization of precious metals in medium high temperature hydrothermal fluids. The discovery of this mineral not only adds new members to the sulfide mineral family, but also has important scientific significance for studying the physical and chemical conditions and mineralization processes of porphyry skarn type deposits.
