2024-08-13

In history, Zhangping was under the jurisdiction of Zhangzhou for 1153 years. Chen Longlin, director of the Party History and Local Chronicles Research Office of the Zhangping Municipal Committee in Longyan, Fujian, recently stated in an interview with multiple media that Zhangping culture is a branch of Minnan culture. On the eve of the birthday of Chen Yuanguang, the "King of Zhangzhou", every year, the Weihui Temple in Zhangping would go to the Weihui Temple in Zhangzhou Official Garden to offer incense and invite fire. On August 8th, Chen Longlin, director of the Party History and Local Chronicles Research Office of Zhangping Municipal Committee, shared the culture of Zhangzhou Shengwang. On August 7-8, the theme research and interview team of "Exploring Chen Yuanguang's Cultural Footprints in Fujian and Zhangzhou" visited Xianyou County in Putian City and Zhangping City in Longyan to carry out the second phase of activities in Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province. The research and interview team visited Chen Yuanguang's former residence, Weihui Lingzhuwang Temple, Chen Zheng's General Cemetery, Chen Hongjin's former residence in Fengting Town, Xianyou County, as well as Weifu Palace, Jiaying Temple, Lingzhuwang Temple, Weihui Temple, Qingxiang Hall and other places in Zhangping City, to appreciate the local people's respect and admiration for the culture of the Holy King. In the early years of the Tang Dynasty, father and son Chen Zheng and Chen Yuanguang were ordered to go south and quell the "Roaring Rebellion" in Quanchao. During this period, the father and son of the Chen family, along with their generals, "stationed in Fujian and Guangdong, opened up Zhangzhou, and consolidated southern Fujian". They endured hardships and hardships, and worked tirelessly in the southern Fujian region, as well as in present-day places such as Xianyou in Putian and Zhangping in Longyan, to promote the well-being of the people. On August 8th, the theme research and interview team of "Exploring Chen Yuanguang's Cultural Footprints in Fujian and Zhangzhou" conducted an interview in Xinqiao Town, Zhangping City, Zhangzhou City. Zhangping City is located at the junction of central Fujian, southern Fujian, and western Fujian, in the southern part of central Fujian, and is described as "central southern Fujian" in the county annals. In the twelfth year of the Yongzheng reign (1734), Zhangping was placed under the jurisdiction of Longyan Zhili Prefecture and separated from Zhangzhou's jurisdiction for only 290 years. According to the "Li Boyao Ancient Genealogy", the Li family in Banwei, Zhangping City, originated from the descendants of Li Boyao, the Holy Marquis of Zhangzhou. Long term administrative jurisdiction will inevitably lead Zhangping people towards cultural identity and spiritual development in southern Fujian and Zhangzhou In Chen Longlin's view, this is not only a joint admiration and commemoration of the "Kaizhang Holy King" Chen Yuanguang by the people of both places, but also a concrete manifestation of the public's recognition of Chinese traditional culture, national pride, and cultural confidence. According to Chen Longlin, during the long historical period, the main external communication channel for Zhangping people was the North Creek of the Jiulong River. Since the third year of the Chuigong reign of the Tang Dynasty (687), the governor of Zhangzhou, Chen Yuanguang, developed Zhangzhou and dispatched the Liu brothers to lead his troops in dredging the North Creek of the Jiulong River to connect boats. By the 1950s, when the Yingxia Railway was opened, the North Creek waterway transportation from Zhangping to Zhangzhou had a history of 1270 years. Chen Longlin once wrote that Zhangping belongs to the category of the Minnan cultural circle, with the most frequent economic trade and personnel exchanges between the two places, and cultural integration. The Jiaying Temple, located in Xipu Village, Xinqiao Town, Zhangping City, is an ancient temple that commemorates the achievements of the three Liu brothers in governing the North Creek of the Jiulong River. It enshrines Liu's "Three Dukes of Jiulong" and three wives, as well as the statue of Confucian general Chen Yuanguang and his wife. On August 8th, Lu Qingshun, a local expert in folk culture research in Zhangping, introduced the folk belief culture of Liu's Jiulong San Gong to reporters. According to his research, the three Liu brothers followed father and son Chen Zheng and Chen Yuanguang southward to open up Zhangzhou. The names of these three brothers are unknown, but the legendary names are Liu Fu, Liu Lu, and Liu Shou. Chen Yuanguang sent them to control the water disasters in Jiulong River and open up water transportation on Jiulong River. The three brothers of the Liu family were revered by the people for their contributions to water management. Later, they were worshipped as gods by the local people and built temples for worship, which has been passed down to this day. According to the "Zhangzhou Prefectural Annals, Volume 418", it is said that the three brothers surnamed Liu opened Zhangzhou from the Tang general. In the old days, the waterways of Longyan, Zhangzhou, Pingning, and Yangzhou were blocked by boats and boats, and the Liu family was able to reach above the Beixi River. They believed in spiritual harmony. Lu Qingshun stated that Chen Yuanguang not only brought advanced agricultural production technology from the Central Plains, developed agriculture in Zhangzhou, and facilitated commerce and industry, but also dispatched the Liu brothers to dredge and manage the North Creek of the Jiulong River, develop waterway transportation, and greatly promote the economic development of the Jiulong River North Creek and the southern Fujian and coastal areas of Zhangzhou. This research and interview activity is guided by the Minnan Culture Research Association of Fujian Province, jointly organized by the Propaganda Department of Zhangzhou Municipal Party Committee, the News Office of the Municipal Government, the Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and the Party History and Local Chronicles Research Office of the Municipal Party Committee. It is divided into four stages. According to the organizer, the research and interview team will conduct in-depth research and interviews in Xinyang, Henan, Putian and Longyan, Fujian, Chaoshan, Zhangzhou Xiangcheng, Zhangpu, Yunxiao and other places by exploring the footprints and influences of Chen Zheng and Chen Yuanguang's "garrison in Fujian and Guangdong, opening up Zhangzhou, and consolidating southern Fujian". From July 30th to August 2nd, a research and interview team consisting of Zhangzhou cultural and historical experts, scholars, and journalists set off from Yunxiao and entered Gushi County, Xinyang City, Henan Province to explore the origins of Minnan culture. They embarked on a journey to trace the roots of Minnan culture. (New Society)
