Xinhua News Review: China's Shuttle Diplomacy Gathers Forces for World Peace

2024-08-12

The Chinese government's special representative for Eurasian affairs, Li Hui, recently launched a new round of shuttle diplomacy on the Ukrainian crisis, visiting three important members of the "Global South" - Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia - to explore ways to cool down the situation and accumulate conditions for restarting peace talks. The visiting countries highly praised China's important contributions to promoting world peace. China has always upheld fairness and justice on international hot topics, actively advocated for peace talks, united the international community, especially the vast southern countries, continuously strengthened the power of peace, and demonstrated China's responsibility for maintaining world peace through practical actions, showcasing the international image of a builder of world peace. Since the comprehensive escalation of the Ukrainian crisis, China has adhered to an objective and impartial stance, always standing on the side of peace and dialogue, and has repeatedly dispatched envoys to shuttle and mediate, paving the way and building bridges to promote talks. This trip of Li Hui to Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia is the fourth round of shuttle diplomacy conducted by China to cool down the situation in Ukraine. During the visit, Brazil appreciated the constructive role played by China in promoting peace talks and believed that both sides have similar views on the crisis situation. Brazil is willing to work with China to continue promoting the "six point consensus" and accumulate conditions for political resolution of the crisis; South Africa appreciates China's shuttle diplomacy and believes that countries in the "global South" should strengthen cooperation, issue a fair and just voice to the international community, and create conditions for cooling down the situation and ultimately achieving peace; Indonesia expresses its willingness to work together with China and relevant parties to uphold the principles of collectivism and inclusiveness, and to find a solution to the crisis. The Ukrainian crisis has persisted to this day, and the vast majority of countries in the "global South" have not blindly taken sides with the United States and the West. China, Brazil, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and other countries have either proposed peace plans or traveled back and forth between Russia and Ukraine to promote peace talks, becoming important forces in promoting dialogue and peace. The fourth round of shuttle diplomacy launched by the Chinese side is based on the consensus that the more people jointly call for peace, the greater the hope for the situation to cool down, and the closer the day to restart peace talks and restore peace. In the face of turbulence and crisis, China is striving for peace and facilitating negotiations. As long as the conflict does not stop, China's efforts to promote peace and talks will not cease, not only in the case of the Ukrainian crisis, but also in other international and regional hot topics. In July of this year, 14 Palestinian factions gathered in Beijing for the first time to hold a reconciliation dialogue, bringing valuable hope to the suffering Palestinian people. Since the outbreak of the new round of Israeli Palestinian conflict, China has repeatedly pushed for the adoption of resolutions aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the United Nations Security Council. Last March, with the support and promotion of China, Saudi Arabia and Iran reached a historic reconciliation in Beijing and decided to restore diplomatic relations, setting an example for regional countries to resolve conflicts and differences through dialogue and consultation, and achieve good neighborly friendship... Some Middle Eastern media lamented, "Seeking peace, even if it is far away in China. From mediating the "handshake and peace talks" between Saudi Arabia and Iran, to facilitating historic reconciliation among various factions within Palestine, to actively promoting a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis, China's proposals and solutions have been widely recognized and supported by the international community. China has always adhered to the concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security, and made unremitting efforts to maintain world peace and development. In the face of crisis, China never pours oil into the fire, nor does it take advantage of opportunities to profit. Instead, it always maintains an objective and fair stance, widely consolidates international consensus, and injects more stability and positive energy into the world of turmoil and turmoil. Currently, the Ukrainian crisis and the Israeli Palestinian conflict are still ongoing and there is a risk of further escalation and spillover. The international community generally realizes that the more severe the situation is, the more it is necessary to build communication platforms, strengthen the peace camp, and form a peaceful momentum. Although the road to peace is winding and complex, as long as it is conducive to easing tensions and reducing conflicts, China is willing to continue to work hard for it. (New Society)
