On the afternoon of August 5th, the 2024 "China Roots Seeking Journey" summer camp (Charm of Southern Guangdong - Overseas Chinese Youth Chinese Cultural Experience Camp), hosted by the China Federation of Overseas Chinese, organized by the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Overseas Chinese, and co organized by the School of Chinese Studies at Jinan University, closed in Guangzhou. Shao Hui, Deputy Minister of Culture and Third level Researcher of the Provincial Overseas Chinese Federation, Yang Wanbing, Vice Dean of the School of Chinese at Jinan University, Wu Tianshu from the National Association of Chinese Schools, Cai Xueling from the National Association of Chinese Youth, and nearly 70 campers attended the closing ceremony. Shao Hui and Yang Wanbing delivered speeches respectively, congratulating the closure of this summer camp. They hope that the campers can share the stories of excellent Chinese culture, the development of Guangdong, and the warm and friendly stories of the Guangdong people they learned during the activity with their friends living in their home countries, and make their own contributions to building a harmonious world together. Wu Tianshu spoke on behalf of overseas delegation units, stating that he will strengthen interaction and contact with the Guangdong Overseas Chinese Federation, and jointly contribute to promoting the inheritance and dissemination of Chinese culture overseas. At the closing ceremony, overseas delegation units also presented banners to the organizing units. Shao Hui and Yang Wanbing awarded certificates to outstanding campers and leaders respectively. The attending guests and all teachers and students enjoyed the campers' learning achievements report performance together. This is my first time participating in the China Roots Seeking Summer Camp, and the experience of learning with campers from different countries around the world has surprised me greatly. The 10 day study not only allowed me to gain valuable friendships and improve my Chinese proficiency, but also enhanced my understanding of China and felt the profoundness of Chinese culture. During the 10 day summer camp, campers learned various Lingnan cultural courses such as Fun Chinese, Lingnan Qian Drum Dance, Lingnan Architecture, Guangzhou Embroidery, and Shiwan Clay Sculpture. They visited cultural places with Guangdong characteristics such as Kaiping Chikan Ancient Town, Guangdong Art Museum, Guangzhou Tower, and Zhuhai Grand Theater. They also went to South China Agricultural University and Guangdong Culinary Technical School to learn about agricultural culture and Cantonese cuisine culture. They personally made Guangdong famous snack - salted chicken cage, and entered the Zhuhai Aviation Science and Technology Research Base to learn aviation technology knowledge. The exciting and diverse camp activities showcased the inclusive, open, and friendly Guangdong and the colorful Southern Guangdong culture to the campers. The campers shared their gains in various forms and expressed their reluctance to part ways. Cai Xueling stated that the organization of summer camp activities can enable more and more Chinese young people to become ambassadors for the inheritance and dissemination of Chinese culture, and better convey the voice of modern China to the world. Wu Tianshu expressed that he believes that with the efforts of generations of overseas Chinese, Chinese culture will shine even more brilliantly on the world stage, becoming an important force connecting different countries and ethnic groups and promoting world peace and development.
