Strengthening weight management to promote public health (Shadowless Lamp)

2024-08-09

Recently, several public hospitals in Beijing have opened weight loss clinics, centers, or formed multidisciplinary consultation teams to provide "one-stop services" for obese patients. In June of this year, the National Health Commission and 16 other departments launched the "Weight Management Year" campaign, aiming to establish a supportive environment for weight management within about three years, significantly improve the awareness and skills of weight management among the public, popularize healthy lifestyles, and gradually form a good situation of weight management with the participation and benefit of the whole population. Some people's abnormal weight conditions have been improved. Weight is a mirror for observing the nutrition and health status of the human body. With the development of society and changes in production and lifestyle, the problem of overweight and obesity among Chinese residents is becoming increasingly prominent. Abnormal weight, especially overweight and obesity, is an important risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and some cancers. It has become a major public health problem that endangers the health of the masses. It is urgent to strengthen intervention and improve it. Strengthening weight management requires both individual efforts and social collaboration. Government departments should strengthen cooperation, coordinate resources from all parties, integrate weight management into various policies and action plans, and create a supportive social environment for weight management. For example, promoting the "one scale, one foot, one calendar" (weight scale, waist measurement, weight management calendar), encouraging medical and health institutions, schools, government agencies, enterprises, hotels, etc. to install weight scales, and if conditions permit, to install human body composition analyzers; Expand the coverage of health cabin communities and create supportive environments such as health themed parks, health trails, fitness equipment, etc; Strengthen the construction of health units and encourage them to provide infrastructure and conditions for employees' fitness; Promote the construction of healthy canteens and restaurants, and avoid selling high salt, high sugar, and high-fat foods on campus; Fully implement the student physical fitness campaign, ensuring that students have one hour of physical activity time on and off campus every day. We need to strengthen the role of family weight management, incorporate weight management into the goals and actions of a healthy family, adhere to the principles of "big hands pulling small hands" and "small hands helping big hands", and establish a new concept of healthy family life. Family members should regularly measure their weight, remind and supervise each other, master scientific cooking skills, actively participate in national fitness exercises, and reduce the risk of obesity in clustered families. For example, adhere to the principle of not lacking staple foods, not eating too much deep fried food, eating meat and fish in moderation, and having vegetables on a regular basis. Try the family's weekly healthy eating plan by using quantitative tools such as oil pots, salt spoons, and sugar jars; Family members should support each other, reduce static behaviors such as lying down, leaning against each other, and sit down. The whole family should go outdoors together and adopt an active mode of transportation; Advocate for the "fragmentation of sports" and utilize all available time for exercise to integrate sports into daily life. Weight management is a science that cannot blindly follow trends, nor can it be rushed to achieve results. Currently, there are many misconceptions in society about weight loss, such as fasting, excessive dieting, and skipping staple foods. In fact, blind weight loss not only fails to achieve the goal of weight loss, but may also lead to weight rebound and even greater health hazards. Experts believe that the fundamental cause of overweight or obesity is an imbalance between eating and movement. The key to weight loss and weight loss is to "keep your mouth shut, take your legs wide open" and maintain a balance of energy intake and outflow. The main goal of weight loss for overweight and obese individuals is to reduce the weight of adipose tissue. When setting weight loss goals, one should act within their means and not too quickly. To leverage professional technical advantages and standardize weight management service models. For example, promoting weight management in medical and health institutions at all levels, improving the weight management skills of medical staff and the level of obesity treatment services; Encourage medical and health institutions to establish weight management clinics or obesity prevention and treatment centers, integrate relevant professional resources, and provide obesity diagnosis and treatment services; Encourage grassroots medical and health institutions to incorporate weight management into contracted services, and provide timely guidance on healthy lifestyles such as reasonable diet and scientific exercise to contracted residents; Promote appropriate techniques of traditional Chinese medicine, provide services such as TCM constitution identification, dietary regulation, daily life adjustment, and exercise health care. One's health is the foundation of one's existence, and the health of the people is the basis of building a country. The whole society actively participates in the "Weight Management Year" activity, advocates and promotes a civilized and healthy lifestyle, continuously improves the awareness and skills of weight management among the public, and enables more people to maintain a healthy weight and enjoy a healthy life.
