Holding hands with one's child and growing old together is the longing of most people for love, but some criminals take advantage of others' eagerness for marriage and love to commit fraud. Recently, the People's Court of Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County concluded multiple cases of marriage, love, and friendship fraud. The defendants used the pretext of marriage, love, and friendship to fabricate facts and defraud victims of a total of over 670000 yuan. What are the common fraudulent methods in marriage and romantic relationships? How should we prevent it? The judge of Sanjiang Court reminded everyone to pay attention to these "sweet traps" with the case statement. Case 1: One person played two roles and defrauded over 570000 yuan. From June 2020 to July 2022, Xiao Hei introduced girlfriends to Xiao Jia, Xiao Yi, and Xiao Bing, and then fabricated the identity of "Xiao Ni" to chat with the victim on WeChat. He developed a romantic relationship with the victim on the internet using the fictitious identity. Later, Xiao Hei repeatedly used the fictitious identity to defraud the victim of 571205.7 yuan on the grounds of his mother's hospitalization and urgent family matters. The court believes that the defendant Xiao Hei, with the purpose of illegal possession, used fabricated facts and concealed the truth to defraud others of their property, with a huge amount of money, and his behavior has constituted the crime of fraud. Based on the defendant's criminal facts, nature, circumstances, and degree of social harm, the People's Court of Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County sentenced the defendant Xiaohei to seven years and two months in prison, imposed a fine of 50000 yuan, and ordered compensation for the victim's losses of 571205.7 yuan. Case 2: On the other side of the screen, it may be "he" instead of "she". In October 2022, Xiao Shuai took advantage of his colleagues' eagerness to find a marriage partner and registered a new WeChat account using his own identity information. He fabricated the female identity of "Xiao Mei" and introduced her to the victim for marriage and dating. In order to avoid arousing suspicion from the victim, Xiao Shuai sometimes used voice changing software to communicate with the victim through voice calls and developed a romantic relationship with the victim using a false identity. During the period from October 2022 to February 2023, Xiaoshuai repeatedly used false identities to defraud victims of 22563.16 yuan under the pretext of "urgent need for money, accidents". The court believes that the defendant Xiaoshuai, with the purpose of illegal possession, used fabricated facts and concealed the truth to defraud others of property, and the amount was relatively large. His behavior has constituted the crime of fraud. Based on the defendant's criminal facts, nature, circumstances, and degree of social harm, the People's Court of Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County sentenced the defendant Xiaoshuai to eleven months' imprisonment, imposed a fine of RMB 5000, and ordered compensation of RMB 22563.16 for the victim's losses. Case 3: Concealing the fact of marriage and pretending to be single to commit fraud. In August 2022, Xiaolan and Xiaohong met through a referral. Later, Xiaohong concealed her married status and dated Xiaolan, and illegally cohabited with her boyfriend Xiaoqiang during the marriage. During the period from August 2022 to January 2023, Xiaohong fabricated the fact that she needed to repay her boyfriend's car purchase, medical treatment, and car loan, and defrauded Xiaolan of 82600 yuan. The court believes that the defendant Xiaohong, with the purpose of illegal possession, used fabricated facts and concealed the truth to defraud others of their property, with a huge amount of money, and her behavior has constituted the crime of fraud. After being arrested, Xiaohong's family compensated the victim for all economic losses on her behalf. Based on the defendant's criminal facts, nature, circumstances, and degree of social harm, the People's Court of Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County sentenced the defendant Xiaohong to one year and eight months in prison, with a two-year probation and a fine of RMB 5000. The judge claimed that if someone uses a false identity to fabricate facts and obtain property from others under the guise of marriage and love, and the amount exceeds a certain amount, it constitutes the crime of fraud and should bear criminal responsibility according to law. I hope the general public will take the case as a warning and not cross the legal red line. In addition, single men and women must be vigilant and maintain a clear mind when it comes to economic transactions during the process of seeking marriage and making friends. They should not engage in large financial transactions with people they have never met before. When the other party requests loans or transfers, they should enhance their awareness of prevention, learn to refuse, and prevent criminals from committing fraud under the guise of love.
