To prevent 'blue screen', core technology must be independently controllable

Recently, the Microsoft Windows operating system experienced a global crash, with millions of users experiencing a "blue screen crash" issue while using it, causing chaos in the aviation, railway, medical, and financial systems of many countries. According to reports, the cause of this malfunction was an error in software program updates by the well-known American cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. Technically speaking, this is an accident that should have been completely avoided. Zhongdao Company did not conduct strict and sufficient internal testing before the program update, with the intention of better protecting customers' network security, but the result was no less than a large-scale network attack on customers. British cybersecurity expert Junad Ali believes that this incident has led to an unprecedented global information system failure, surpassing the scale of the most serious ransomware attack in history. SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk also referred to it as the 'biggest IT failure in history'. The "Microsoft Blue Screen" incident exposed the fragility of the global information technology system, which relies too much on top technology companies such as Microsoft and Zhongke. According to statistics, Microsoft Windows has a market share of about 72% in the global operating system market, and Zhongke Company's products account for nearly 24% of the market share in the terminal security field. It is precisely because their positions are too "crucial" that a small program vulnerability can cause such a large-scale global operating system crash. From an international perspective, it is difficult to fundamentally solve this problem in the short term. The feasible means to reduce risks and losses can only be to require top enterprises to increase their sense of responsibility and technological reliability, establish backup systems for information technology infrastructure in key areas such as healthcare, energy, and transportation, and enhance emergency response and system recovery capabilities. For our country, the "Microsoft Blue Screen" incident once again proves that in key information technology fields such as operating systems and network security, we are at the mercy of others and face great risks. The unintentional "snap of a finger" by Zhongdao Company can have such a significant impact on the global information technology system, causing the paralysis of important networks in multiple countries, and the consequences of technological dependence are extremely frightening. Technological self-reliance and self-improvement are the foundation of national strength and security, and core technologies must be firmly controlled in our own hands. In recent years, domestically produced information technology systems, including domestic operating systems, have been widely applied in fields such as transportation, finance, and energy, and are increasingly "flying into ordinary people's homes", as well as expanding into international markets. Huawei's "HarmonyOS" has become the third largest smartphone operating system in the world, with a domestic market share second only to "Android" in the first quarter of this year; China's "Open Kirin" open-source operating system has millions of community users in 188 countries and regions worldwide. All of these have increased our confidence in dealing with external "stormy waves". The rise of China's independent information technology system is not only an inevitable requirement and necessary path to achieve high-level technological self-reliance and self-improvement, but also provides a "Chinese solution" for all countries that hope to break away from their dependence on international leading technology enterprises. Although this path is full of hardships and challenges, we must steadfastly continue on. (New Society)
