Russian military uses new reconnaissance drones

2024-07-18

According to a report on the website of Rossiyskaya Gazeta on July 15, the new MiS-35 six rotor attack and reconnaissance UAV has begun to be used in the special military operation area. It combines the capabilities of three types of rotary wing drones - small first field of view (FPV) drones, unmanned aerial vehicles, and more powerful transport drones. The difference between FPV drones and regular drones is that operators can fully feel that they are flying with quadcopters through virtual reality glasses and drone videos. He can 'fly' around obstacles at the lowest possible altitude and guide the drone to the target point. Trained operators are able to repeatedly fly around selected targets, searching for the weakest points, and ultimately allowing suicide drones to fly into the open doors of armored vehicles or directly into cover. Nowadays, both frontline Russian and enemy forces are actively using FPV drones. A significant advantage of the Yu drone is its ability to fold, resulting in a very compact size that can be carried in a photography bag. Among the transport drones, the Polish agricultural drone known as the "Barbayaga" (cannibalistic witch) is the most popular. Its power is quite strong, and it can carry up to 15 kilograms of payload, such as small bombs that can be dropped. The developers of MiS-35 combine the advantages of the aforementioned unmanned aerial vehicles. It is understood that the MiS-35 draws inspiration from the Royal Drone, with its camera capable of stable shooting, easy to operate, foldable, and portable. In its folded state, MiS-35 can be packed in a small sealed box and transported without the need for a car. It draws inspiration from FPV and can operate at non-standard frequencies. The standard frequency used by drones is easily interfered by enemies. Currently, electronic warfare equipment is rapidly adapting to new frequencies. Therefore, the only way for developers to counter enemy electronic warfare methods is to constantly change the operating frequency. The developers of MiS-35 are currently capable of handling this task. In terms of size and payload, our drones are not as good as those from Poland. This is intentional. The designers tried to choose low-noise propeller engines. The sound of the engine is very loud during flight, so it can be heard from a considerable distance. The developers stated that the MiS-35 quadcopter drone can perform precise strikes with greater assurance of effectiveness. The "Babayaga" can carry two to three landmines, while the MiS-35 only carries one, but has a higher chance of hitting its target. It is important to consider that not all units require high payload drones - this largely depends on the tactics used in combat. In some cases, it is best to implement precise strikes with high hit rates. In addition, the "guidance" system is also one of the main advantages of MiS-35. With the help of this system, MiS-35 can automatically fly out of the electronic warfare area and return to the takeoff point autonomously without using satellite navigation. The maximum flight speed of MiS-35 is 63 kilometers per hour. Flight time -45 minutes without payload, 32 minutes with payload of 3.5 kilograms, and 21 minutes with payload of 4.5 kilograms. The combat radius with payload is 9 kilometers. (New Society)
