China Laos' Friendship Shield 2024 Joint Exercise launches land air joint training

2024-07-12

On the 10th local time, the land and air joint training phase of the China Laos "Friendship Shield 2024" joint exercise and mixed training began as scheduled at the Kumadan Academy training ground of the Lao People's Army. The ground and air combat forces of the Chinese and Lao armies closely cooperate and link together, conducting targeted exercises on air assault, covert contact with the enemy, and blockade operations to enhance their ability to jointly carry out combat missions. Since the start of the joint exercise, China and Laos have had multiple exchanges on training plans, action styles, scene designs, and other aspects of land air cooperation, exchanging skills with each other. We were inspired by the training from the Chinese side and focused on studying the transformation of combat formations after aerial landing, further enriching the tactical application. "An experienced participant from the Chinese side stated that they fully drew on the tactical concepts of the Chinese side during the aerial assault training, adjusted personnel positions and alert force arrangements in a timely manner, and distinguished themselves from the Chinese side around tasks such as rapid assault, firepower cover, and target escort, making their actions more reasonable and efficient. During the training period, the participating officers and soldiers from both sides had in-depth interaction and communication, including mutual learning of different boarding and disembarking methods for landing and hovering, as well as communication on issues such as the use of weapons by combatants, timing of ground assaults, and selection of landing positions. They also sparked a "brainstorming" of combat concepts. The combination of land and air is not simply about transportation and delivery. In the context of more diverse combat forces and weapons and equipment, it is necessary to focus on the mission and fully consider the overall combat effectiveness Chinese pilot Wang Xingbang stated that during the joint clearance exercise, China and Laos have negotiated action plans multiple times based on the operational area and mission needs. In response to China's actual use of various new equipment such as reconnaissance and strike integrated unmanned aerial vehicles, tracked unmanned vehicles, and wall penetrating radars, they have innovated action styles, optimized cooperation modes, and continuously improved the quality and efficiency of mission completion. During the training period, the participating officers and soldiers from both sides continued to adapt and regularly reviewed their combat operations, constantly drawing valuable experience. From issuing commands to commanding gestures, from training habits to combat procedures, they became increasingly familiar with each other. At the exercise site, the Chinese participating officers and soldiers landed and approached the core area of the operation, sending snipers to occupy favorable terrain and carry out precise firepower "pulling points" with the assistance of various unmanned equipment. The Lao participating officers and soldiers provided firepower support and search and clearance, and the two sides had smooth communication and tacit cooperation, effectively suppressing the target area. A Chinese staff officer who participated in the training planning said, "With the changes in future combat styles and tasks, the design of land air joint training also needs to be continuously optimized. This joint exercise and training will be mutually adjusted, which will effectively improve the quality and efficiency of training and promote military cooperation to a higher level
