Recently, at the 9th Plenary Session of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC269/SC3) held in Stockholm, Sweden, experts and observers from 13 countries, including France, Germany, and Japan, unanimously agreed to approve the project proposal of the special working group on "Guidelines for Operating Rules for the Application of Autonomous Driving Mode" led by China. It was decided to establish a working group, with Chinese experts leading the standard preparation work. This is the world's first ISO international standard (TR) for railway autonomous driving. The Guidelines for Operating Rules of Applying Autonomous Driving Mode focuses on the field of autonomous driving, which is currently a cutting-edge hot topic in the world railway industry. The project focuses on the application of autonomous driving in trunk railways in countries and regions such as China, Europe, and Japan. By identifying the impact of applying autonomous driving mode on key elements of railway operation (positions, processes, responsibilities, etc.), the principle of macro operational rule formulation is proposed. At present, the global autonomous driving railway trunk line has a mileage of approximately 923 kilometers, including 643 kilometers for passenger transportation and 280 kilometers for freight transportation. China accounts for 68% of the total operating mileage and 97% of the passenger mileage; The rich experience of Chinese railways in the field of railway autonomous driving is worth promoting in ISO standards. In 2016, China's Pearl River Delta intercity railway adopted an ATO system based on the CTCS train control system, which was the world's first to achieve autonomous driving at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour. In October 2020, the Beijing Zhangjiakou high-speed railway achieved autonomous driving at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour. (Lai Xin She)
