Shenzhen's future three intercity railways connecting to the Bay Area Subway Line 1
2024-07-04
On June 30th, the Shenzhen China Channel opened for trial operation, and the "one hour" living circle in the Greater Bay Area is gradually becoming a reality. As the transportation between highways becomes increasingly convenient, the construction of intercity railways is also accelerating. In the construction of the intercity railway in the Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen plays a crucial role in connecting Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Huizhou to the north and Hong Kong to the south. With the opening of the Bay Area Subway Line 1, the progress of Shenzhen intercity railway construction has received increasing attention. It is reported that there are currently four intercity rail lines under construction in Shenzhen (excluding high-speed rail), including the Guangzhou Dongguan Shenzhen Intercity Railway, Shenzhen Huizhou Intercity Railway, Shenzhen Huizhou Intercity Dapeng Branch Line, and Shenzhen Dalian Intercity Railway. On site direct attack: The "Steel Giant" day and night excavation of the Dapeng branch line project starts from Longcheng Station in Longgang District and ends at Xinda Station in Dapeng New Area, with a total length of 39.387 kilometers and a total of 6 stations. In the future, it will also be extended northward to Humen, Dongguan. Yanzihu Station is a transfer station between the Dapeng Branch of the Shenzhen Huizhou Intercity Railway and Shenzhen Metro Line 16. The station has three underground floors and its main body was completed on June 13th. Arriving at the third underground level, the huge double hole tunnel caught the eye. "The intercity line can reach a speed of 160 kilometers per hour, making it larger than conventional subway tunnels and requiring higher construction requirements," said Yu Xianxuan, Deputy Manager of the Dapeng Branch Line Project of Shenzhen Railway Group. The interval between intercity line stations is also longer, usually between 6-7 kilometers, and the conventional subway interval is about 2 kilometers. The machines roar and the heat waves roll. On the morning of June 28th, the construction site of Yanzihu Station on the Dapeng Branch Line of the Shenzhen Huizhou Intercity Railway (hereinafter referred to as the Dapeng Branch Line) was busy. The workers on the ground are lifting and transporting precast concrete segments into a tunnel 25 meters underground. On the other side, large machinery is transporting the crushed soil inside the tunnel to the ground. "At this moment, our shield tunneling machine is located 1.5 kilometers deep in the tunnel from Yanzihu Station." Prophet Yu said. The wind inside the tunnel is very loud, and the temperature is significantly lower than the ground. To cool down and supply fresh air inside the tunnel, a large pipeline is installed above the tunnel for ventilation. On the side of the tunnel, a transmission line extends from the depths of the tunnel to continuously transport gravel and soil outside the tunnel. Liu Dongfeng, Secretary of the Party Branch of the General Manager Department of the China Communications Shenhui Intercity Dapeng Branch, said that the geological complexity of the Dapeng straight line is complex, and nearly 10 kilometers of the shield tunnel section are located in karst developed areas, which extends the construction period compared to other projects. To ensure progress, there are currently 16 shield tunneling machines working day and night on the entire line. Two more machines will be launched by the end of August, reaching 18. The shield tunneling machine is an underground "steel giant" worth tens of millions of yuan and is over 100 meters long. In fact, only one engineer is operating it, and with daily maintenance personnel, there are only 7-8 people in total. A tunnel excavation of 10.8 meters can be completed daily, and the "shield" (precast concrete pipe segments) of the tunnel can be laid. "If encountering rock formations, the excavation speed will decrease," said Liu Dongfeng. Liu Dongfeng introduced that currently, two of the five stations on the Dapeng branch line have been capped, and the remaining stations have met the conditions for shield tunneling starting and receiving. The main structure of the storage yard located at Xinda Station has been completed by 48%, and it is expected to be capped by the end of the year. Current progress: 12 stations on four intercity lines have been capped. On June 25th, Shenzhen Rail Transit announced that the left line of the machine fixed shield tunnel section from Suiguan Shenzhen Intercity Airport to Qianhai has been successfully connected, marking the longest underwater tunnel on domestic intercity railways to achieve dual line connection. It is understood that after the completion of the Guangzhou Dongguan Shenzhen Intercity Railway, it will be connected to the dense subway network in Shenzhen. Not only can Shenzhen citizens smoothly reach other cities in the Bay Area by subway, but residents from other parts of the Bay Area can also directly connect to Shenzhen Bao'an, Qianhai, Huanggang Port, and connect with the Hong Kong Metro. It is reported that there are currently four intercity rail lines under construction in Shenzhen (excluding high-speed rail lines), including the Guangzhou Dongguan Shenzhen Intercity Railway, Shenzhen Huizhou Intercity Railway, Shenzhen Huizhou Intercity Dapeng Branch Line, and Shenzhen Dalian Intercity Railway. A total of 33 new stations have been built on four intercity lines, and as of now, 12 have been capped; 109 shield tunneling machines, with a total of 90 starting machines; The shield tunneling interval is 333 kilometers, with a total of 112 kilometers of excavation; The construction and management length of the mining method tunnel (a tunnel constructed by manual excavation) is 58 kilometers, with a cumulative completion of 25 kilometers. Future plan: On May 26th, the Guangzhou Foshan South Ring and Foshan Dongguan intercity railways were officially put into operation, connecting the Shenzhen Guangzhou Central Axis intercity railway with the already operational Guanhui and Foshan Zhaoqing intercity railway. Together, they will build a 258 kilometer east-west main channel connecting Huizhou, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhaoqing in the Bay Area. This railway line is also referred to by netizens as the "Bay Area Subway Line 1" and the "Bay Area Large Subway". Shenzhen also has plans to connect with the Bay Area Subway Line 1 in the future. In fact, the Guangzhou Dongguan Shenzhen Intercity Railway has been opened to Shenzhen Airport Station, which can transfer to the "Bay Area Metro Line 1" at Dongguan West Station. What's even more exciting is that according to Shenzhen's ongoing intercity rail construction and long-term planning, there will be three intercity lines connecting to the "Bay Area Metro Line 1" in Shenzhen in the future. Among them, the Guangzhou Dongguan Shenzhen Intercity Railway will connect to Dongguan West Station on the Bay Area Subway Line 1 from the west, while the Shenzhen Huizhou Intercity Railway will connect to Lilin North Station on the Bay Area Subway Line 1 from the east. At present, some stations of the Shenzhen Huizhou Intercity Railway have been capped, and multiple shield tunneling machines have successfully departed. It is reported that the Huizhou section of the Shenzhen Huizhou intercity railway has not yet started construction. The Pingdi to Lilin North section of the Shenzhen Huizhou intercity railway is currently undergoing feasibility study and preliminary project research, aiming to be completed and opened to traffic by 2028. The Shenzhen Dalian Intercity Railway, which starts from T4 Station at Shenzhen Airport and ends at Julong Station in Pingshan District, has entered the "four shields advancing together" phase in June this year and is expected to be completed in 2026. At that time, the rapid connection between the eastern, western, and central parts of Shenzhen will be further strengthened. Moreover, according to the Shenzhen Regional Layout Plan for the Pearl River Delta Intercity Rail Transit, there is also a planned intercity line in Shenzhen that will connect with the Bay Area Metro Line 1 at Songshan Lake, namely the Shenzhen Guangzhou Intercity Railway. The route starts from Huanggang Port and connects Futian Central District, Longhua Center, Guangming Science City, Songshan Lake, and Guancheng Center, ending at Tianhe Central District in Guangzhou. At present, a preliminary feasibility study is being conducted on the Shenzhen Guangzhou intercity railway. (Lai Xin She)
