On the evening of July 2, 2024, the "Polar" icebreaking scientific research ship arrived at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center Pier in Shandong Province and will be open to the public for sightseeing. The "Polar" ice breaking research vessel is a new generation of ice breaking research vessels designed and built entirely independently by China, with a range of 14000 nautical miles and the ability to navigate in unlimited global navigation zones. The ice breaking research vessel "Polar" has a strengthened ice zone rating of PC6 and a bow breaking ability of 0.8-1.0 meters of annual ice. In winter, it can sail in the Yellow and Bohai Sea to break ice, monitor the marine environment in the ice area, measure sea ice, and provide assistance in the ice area; Polar and deep-sea surveys can be conducted in summer. In addition to traditional scientific research tools and equipment, the Polar can also carry equipment such as drones, unmanned ships, and underwater autonomous robots. On December 29, 2023, the "Polar" icebreaking scientific research ship made its first public appearance.
