In recent years, autonomous driving technology has become an important trend in the development of the automotive industry, especially in the field of electric vehicles. At present, research and development in the field of auto drive system and electric vehicles have made significant progress worldwide, and have begun to subtly change people's travel habits. In order to promote the high-quality development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area and stimulate the vitality of technological innovation in the region, representatives of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Innovation and Technology Department recently visited the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (referred to as "Polytechnic University") to examine the innovative research achievements of Zheng Jiawei, Director of the Power Electronics Research Center, and his team in the field of electric vehicle autonomous driving. Professor Zheng Jiawei stated at the meeting that although the development of autonomous driving technology has matured globally, there is still an urgent need to promote the deep integration of electric mechanical systems and autonomous driving functions. Subsequently, he further introduced his latest research and development project with the University of Science and Technology team - a four-wheel drive energy-saving autonomous driving electric vehicle. At the meeting, Professor Zheng gave a detailed account of the composition and operation of the vehicle, including its sensors, intelligent steering, usage scenarios, map building simulators, and basic hardware (such as vehicle chassis design and wheel motor design). He also presented several important test data of the vehicle when used in outdoor scenarios. Whether it is energy-saving trajectory planning, energy consumption modeling, or speed optimization considering energy costs and motor efficiency, the R&D team not only improves the overall performance and energy-saving level of the vehicle to a higher level, but also takes into account safety very well. "This is the world's first four-wheel drive energy-saving autonomous electric vehicle that can use angular and differential control, and has energy-saving functions." Professor Zheng said that through the vehicle carbon neutral transportation hub, the auto drive system and power transmission system can achieve high dynamic and energy-saving effects, so the vehicle can walk faster, longer and safer. "Our R&D team has made a series of innovations in multiple energy-saving components, such as power drive system, battery system, regeneration and steering system. In addition, the vehicle has advanced energy-saving algorithms that can flexibly plan the best route and steering, allowing people to have the best driving experience." Professor Zheng Jiawei told Xinhua News Agency reporters that in terms of energy conservation, the vehicle uses fully automatic dynamic navigation technology, adopts wheel internal angular velocity design, and optimizes motor speed control to achieve better energy-saving effects. Compared with traditional electric vehicles, this energy-saving autonomous driving electric vehicle is controlled by a combination of motors, sensors, controllers, radar, ultrasound, GPS, and other functions. In addition, the wheels can also transport power to the battery during operation. In terms of operation, the vehicle is driven by four wheels, and each tire can control the resistance to the road surface, with good anti slip and collision functions. In wet and slippery environments such as snow, the wheels can also effectively control the sliding angle and speed with the road surface, ensuring driving safety. In terms of production and popularization, due to the easy installation of batteries on vehicle chassis and the use of electric motors on wheels, vehicles do not need to use traditional clutches, bearings, etc. The simple design of "lightweight deployment" greatly reduces production costs. Subsequently, Professor Zheng led representatives from the Innovation and Technology Department to walk outdoors and demonstrated the operation mode of four-wheel drive energy-saving autonomous electric vehicles. The representative of the Innovation and Technology Bureau also personally conducted a test drive and expressed that they felt the convenience and fun of electric vehicles being lightweight, fast, and intelligent autonomous driving.
