Recently, the Law Enforcement Inspection Team of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress inspected the implementation of the Yellow River Protection Law in Gansu and conducted special research on sand prevention and control work. During this period, the inspection team held a symposium in Wuwei to listen to the opinions and suggestions of local government departments, experts, scholars, and frontline workers on sand prevention and control work. According to the 2024 supervision work plan of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, in October this year, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress will listen to and review the report of the State Council on the work of sand prevention and control. Research institutes should accelerate the development and promotion of practical sand control machinery to provide strong support and guarantee for sand prevention and control work. "2.39 million mu of desertified land in Gulang County has been treated, with 2.36 million mu completed. Since 2007, Ma Junhe, Executive Director of Gansu Qingsuo Public Welfare Development Center, has led a team to carry out sand prevention and control activities by raising funds online and organizing volunteers from all over the country to plant Haloxylon ammodendron trees in Minqin County. More than 50000 people have participated in desertification and ecological governance, and 6 volunteer ecological forests have been established, planting 70000 acres of various types of trees such as Haloxylon ammodendron trees, with a survival rate of over 85%. This has effectively solved the mobile sand dunes around 12 villages, and the ecological governance effect is obvious. Ma Junhe introduced that in the next step of work, he plans to establish an ecological and environmental protection foundation to raise and integrate more social resources; Promote the establishment of a sand control ecological research institute to improve the technological level of ecological governance; Give full play to the collaborative role between the foundation and the research institute to promote the comprehensive improvement of ecological governance capabilities. Ji Yongfu, the director of Gansu Provincial Institute of Desertification Control, suggested encouraging relevant forestry colleges to establish desertification control majors, increasing subsidies for scientific and technological personnel in desertification control, attracting young people with aspirations to apply for desertification control majors, and cultivating desertification control professionals for the country; Increase investment in research and development in the fields of desertification prevention and control, and increase research and development efforts; Fully leverage the respective advantages of national level research teams, local research teams, and government departments, integrate various forces, and form a joint force for sand prevention and control work; Give full play to the government's leading role and increase the transformation of research achievements in desertification control.
