On June 16th, Ji Xianzheng, Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the China Portuguese Speaking Countries Forum on Economic and Trade Cooperation (Macau), was interviewed by the media. "Under the new conditions of globalization, Macau still maintains its unique role as a 'super contact' with Portuguese speaking countries." Ji Xianzheng, Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the China Portugal Forum on Economic and Trade Cooperation (Macau) (hereinafter referred to as the Forum), recently stated in an interview. The theme interview activities of "Opportunity Bay Area", "Opportunity Hong Kong", and "Opportunity Macau" are currently taking place here. The media team recently visited the exhibition hall of the China Portuguese Speaking Countries Business Cooperation Service Platform and conducted an interview with Ji Xianzheng. Ji Xianzheng pointed out that on the one hand, Macau connects with Portuguese speaking countries, while also radiating to some EU and ASEAN countries; On the other hand, it relies on the motherland. With the advancement of the integration construction of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, government representatives and enterprises from other parts of the Greater Bay Area visit the Permanent Secretariat of the China Portugal Forum every year to jointly explore cooperation with Portuguese speaking countries. "Portuguese speaking countries have a strong demand for development in fields such as automobiles, high-tech, and agricultural machinery, and there is also a strong demand for infrastructure construction." Ji Xianzheng said that in the new era, the China Portugal Forum and the construction of the Greater Bay Area provide broad space for Macao's enterprises and talents to better play their roles. The China Portugal Forum was founded in Macao in October 2003. It was hosted by the Central People's Government of China (Ministry of Commerce), hosted by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, and participated by nine Portuguese speaking countries, namely Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal,  Sao Tome and Principe and Timor Leste. This forum is a non political intergovernmental multilateral economic and trade cooperation mechanism with the theme of promoting economic and trade development. Since its establishment, it has successfully held six ministerial level conferences and one ministerial level special meeting. Looking back at the achievements of the China Portugal Forum over the past 20 years, Ji Xianzheng first mentioned that the forum has enhanced policy exchanges between China and Portuguese speaking countries. On June 16th, Ji Xianzheng, Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the China Portuguese Speaking Countries Forum on Economic and Trade Cooperation (Macau), was interviewed by the media. "Most Portuguese speaking countries are far away from China. By hosting the China Portugal Forum Ministerial Meeting and various activities in Macau, everyone has the opportunity to gather and have face-to-face exchanges." He said that over the past 20 years, the forum has invited more than 2000 officials from China and Portuguese speaking countries at all levels to attend. Everyone held intensive bilateral meetings and talks in Macau to communicate on mutual policies and discuss the development of a common action plan. Since the establishment of the forum, economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese speaking countries has developed rapidly and achieved fruitful results. Ji Xianzheng introduced that in 2023, the trade volume between China and Portuguese speaking countries reached 220.9 billion US dollars, about 20 times that of the forum when it was established; As of the end of 2023, China's stock of various investments in Portuguese speaking countries reached nearly 80 billion US dollars, with contracted projects completed and a turnover of approximately 140 billion US dollars. China has become an important economic and trade partner of Portuguese speaking countries. "The China Portugal Forum has also achieved remarkable results in promoting people to people communication." Ji Xianzheng stated that in addition to various cultural exchange activities held at the central government level, the Macao Special Administrative Region government also holds a large number of cultural exchange activities every year, covering various aspects such as culture, art, publishing, language, education, and training. These diverse cultural activities have enhanced mutual understanding and friendship. As the permanent venue of the China Portugal Forum, Macau has benefited greatly. "Macao is both the builder and beneficiary of the China Portugal platform, which is a process of consultation, co construction, and sharing." Ji Xianzheng said that through the construction of the China Portugal platform, Macao has made friends and demonstrated its unique value, enhanced its international influence, served the needs of the country with its own strengths, and helped its own development. For the future development of the China Portugal Forum, he believes that it is necessary to focus on the implementation of the Action Plan for Economic and Trade Cooperation (2024-2027) signed during the 6th Ministerial Conference this year. "We have common aspirations and needs, as well as mature mechanisms and long-term good practices. We believe that through the joint promotion and implementation of all parties, we will definitely achieve more practical cooperation results." (Le Xin She)
