At a hotel at the foot of Mount Baru, the highest peak in Panama, the sound of coffee cups sipping can be heard one after another. A series of locally grown Guixia coffee beans at the foot of the volcano are ground and brewed to please the taste buds of judges from all over the world. On February 19th, a worker was moving freshly picked coffee beans at the Peterson family estate located in the Bokte area of Chiriki Province, Panama. Xinhua News Agency reporter Chen Haoquan photographed the 28th "Panama Best" Coffee Beans Competition, which recently concluded in the western city of Bokte, Panama. 180 types of coffee beans produced from local estates are preliminarily screened by domestic judges in Panama and then submitted to international judges for evaluation. Finally, the champions of each category are ranked according to their scores. The Panama Best Coffee Beans Competition began in 1996 and is one of the earliest international coffee bean competitions organized by the Panama Fine Coffee Association. After the end of each year's competition, "Champion Bean" will open bidding to buyers from all over the world. In this year's competition, there were many industry professionals from China. Hunter Tedman, Chairman of the Panama Boutique Coffee Association, told reporters that in recent years, more and more Chinese judges, buyers, and consumers have participated in the competition, fully reflecting the increasing attention of Panama coffee in the Chinese market. Guo Jin from Shenzhen has been invited to serve as an international judge for the seventh time. She entered the boutique coffee industry 12 years ago and is currently the head of a domestic boutique coffee chain brand. Guo Jin told reporters that the Asian market is the main market for Panamanian rose summer coffee beans. With the rapid growth of the Chinese coffee market in recent years, the Panamanian coffee industry is increasingly valuing relationships with Chinese customers. Guo Jin said that her brand has more than ten coffee shops in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other places, and the Guixia coffee beans imported from Panama contribute nearly half of the brand's sales every year. "Guixia coffee beans have main flavors such as jasmine, bergamot, and sweet orange, which are close to the tea flavors that Chinese people love to drink, and are therefore popular among Chinese consumers." Wang Zongxin, also from Shenzhen, was a guest judge of this competition and entered the coffee industry six years ago. In his view, besides having many similarities in flavor with Chinese tea, the hand brewed mode of Panamanian Guixia coffee beans is also similar to tea culture, satisfying the pursuit of freshness among young people, making them a favorite among young Chinese consumers. At present, the main mode of China Pakistan boutique coffee trade is to import coffee beans from Panama, roast them domestically, and then sell them. However, there are also Chinese companies involved in the production of Panamanian rose summer coffee beans. Zhang Xiangdong, Chairman of Zhenggu Group who came to watch this year's competition, told reporters that his company mainly deals in organic food in China and is currently collaborating with Panama Manor to produce organic rose summer coffee beans, which will be sold in the domestic market. Zhang Xiangdong said that the company has two planting plots in the Bock specialty area of Panama. Coffee farmers will use sustainable methods to plant organic coffee beans within the plots, such as mixing local trees to shade and wind the coffee trees, or using biological control methods such as carnivorous birds, parasitic bees, and fungi to control pests, achieving a virtuous cycle of economic and environmental benefits. Tedman stated that Chinese consumers have become one of the most important consumer groups for Panamanian Guixia coffee beans. In order to promote the scale and branding of the coffee export industry, the Panama Boutique Coffee Association has registered the "Panama Guixia" trademark in several major national markets in recent years, and China is one of the earliest markets to complete trademark registration.
