On the morning of June 6th, the establishment ceremony and appointment ceremony of the Dean of Tsinghua University's Dushi Academy and Zhishan Academy were held in the reception hall of the main building. In the tenth year of exploring the development of the academy system at Tsinghua University, the establishment of Dushi Academy and Zhishan Academy is an important measure for the university to further improve its undergraduate education system, enhance its ability to cultivate talents independently, and promote the distinctive Chinese academy system at Tsinghua University to a new level. Li Luming, president of Tsinghua University and academician of the CAS Member, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Peng Gang, vice president and dean of Tsinghua University, read out the founding decision of the Academy. The ceremony was attended by Senior Colonel Wang Xueshi, Vice Dean of Aviation Foundation School of Air Force Aviation University, Senior Colonel Zhong Kuirun, Political Commissar of Aviation Foundation School of Naval Aviation University, Liu Zhihua, General Manager of Beijing Shenzhou Aerospace Software Technology Co., Ltd., Guo Zengyuan, Professor of School of Aerospace Science of Tsinghua University and CAS Member, and Sun Jiaguang, Professor of School of Software of Tsinghua University and Academician of CAE Member. The ceremony was presided over by Liu Yi, Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of the Academic Affairs Office of Tsinghua University. Li Luming, Peng Gang, Liu Yi, and Zhang Xiong, the Dean of Dushi Academy, jointly unveiled the plaque for Dushi Academy. Li Luming, Peng Gang, Liu Yi, and Tang Ke, the dean of Zhishan Academy, jointly unveiled the plaque for Zhishan Academy. After the unveiling ceremony, Li Luming presented Zhang Xiong and Tang Ke with letters of appointment as deans. Li Luming congratulated the establishment of the two academies and expressed gratitude to all the teachers, students, and friends from all walks of society who participated in and supported the construction of the academies. He reviewed Tsinghua's active exploration of the academy system in the past decade and pointed out that universities are the main battlefield for cultivating innovative talents, and undergraduate education is the most important foundation for cultivating first-class talents. Tsinghua University has always harbored the aspiration of being a "great nation", fulfilling the original mission of educating people for the Party and the country, keeping pace with the times, continuously deepening undergraduate education and teaching reform, and cultivating national strategic talents and urgently needed talents with targeted goals. The action plan for the comprehensive implementation of the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China by Tsinghua University, formulated and implemented by the school party committee, clearly proposes to explore new paths for cultivating innovative talents for the future, and promote the continuous development of Tsinghua University's characteristic Chinese academy system. Li Luming emphasized that the establishment of Dushi Academy and Zhishan Academy is of special significance for the development and improvement of Tsinghua's distinctive Chinese academy system. This is also a powerful measure for Tsinghua University to cultivate innovative talents in future technology and industry, as well as leading talents in social sciences. Looking towards the future, we hope that all academies will actively explore teaching and organizational models that can inherit and promote the excellent educational tradition of Tsinghua University, while also exploring and innovating for the future, in order to further improve the quality of undergraduate talent cultivation. I hope that all departments will adhere to the original intention of cultivating virtue and talents, fully recognize that the changes in talent cultivation structure have put forward new and higher requirements for undergraduate education, establish a system guarantee and incentive mechanism for continuous investment in college education work, fully leverage the resource advantages of departments, and strongly support the college's talent cultivation work. I hope that the Academy Management Center and relevant functional departments can effectively help each academy grow and develop, continuously deepen theoretical research and practical exploration of the academy system, timely summarize and condense the good practices and experiences of the Chinese Academy system with Tsinghua characteristics, and establish a sound mechanism for problem analysis, solution, and feedback. We look forward to the future cultivation of a large number of talented individuals who can be utilized and shoulder heavy responsibilities by the Du Shi Academy and the Zhi Shan Academy. We will contribute Tsinghua's efforts to accelerate the construction of an education, technology, and talent strong country, and to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind. Zhang Xiong introduced the talent training goals, training models, training characteristics, and student development paths of Dushi Academy. The Dushi Academy is aimed at cultivating leaders in a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, integrating interdisciplinary teaching resources and using artificial intelligence as the starting point, in order to cater to the needs of major countries and major projects. The academy will be characterized by "solid foundation, strong intelligence, emphasis on systems, and encouraging cross disciplinary efforts", relying on supporting resources for departmental and school enterprise cooperation, designing an open curriculum system, and building an advanced interdisciplinary innovation practice system. Efforts will be made to cultivate students into designers of national heavy equipment, experts in major project management, software system architects, decision-makers of complex systems, and hard technology entrepreneurs. Tang Ke introduced the construction concept, educational characteristics, training models, and student development of Zhishan Academy. Zhishan Academy will base itself on the needs of science and technology and economic and social development, adhere to the concept of "integration of general education, cross training, and precise guidance" and the characteristics of "wide caliber, compound, and internationalization", and strive to cultivate leaders in a digital and intelligent society. The academy will build a "big social science" general education system, strengthen the fine matching of teaching resources and student resources, explore a tiered training model for undergraduate students from general education, general vocational connection, professional innovation to undergraduate research connection, provide diversified international training channels represented by global field survey courses, and strive to cultivate a group of composite innovative talents with both international and Chinese perspectives, profound social science foundation, insight into social and technological development trends, and the ability to promote human civilization progress. In recent years, Tsinghua University has firmly promoted the cultivation of top-notch and innovative talents, and deeply explored the development of Tsinghua's distinctive Chinese academy system. Since the establishment of Xinya Academy in 2014, Tsinghua University has been promoting the reform of high-level innovative talent cultivation through the academy system in the past decade. It has successively established five strong foundation academies, namely Zhili, Rixin, Weiyang, Tanwei, and Xingjian, as well as Qiuzhen Academy, Weixian Academy, and Xiuzhong Academy. In 2022, a school level academy construction working group was established to further strengthen top-level design and stimulate the enthusiasm and initiative of departments to participate in academy construction. In the past decade, the academy has taken education as its sole purpose, with the core of promoting curriculum reform, paying attention to personalized student growth, and creating a good educational atmosphere. It has continued to build a high-level curriculum system, carried out pilot training for undergraduate and doctoral programs, and implemented the reform concept of integrating general education with vocational education and focusing on learning. Currently, Tsinghua University's distinctive academy has become one of the main models for cultivating undergraduate talents, and has achieved gratifying results in student training. It has become an important measure for Tsinghua University to explore the high-quality development of undergraduate education in the new era. The newly established Dushi Academy will fully integrate the educational and teaching resources of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Department of Industrial Engineering, and the School of Software. With a deep practical scenario of national heavy equipment and major engineering, through an open curriculum system, integrated system practice, and personalized training programs, it will help students solidify their mathematical foundation, master intelligent technology, establish systematic thinking, and grow into leaders in the new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation. The newly established Zhishan Academy will mainly focus on the School of Social Sciences, bringing together faculty from departments such as Wudaokou School of Finance, School of Public Administration, School of Journalism and Communication, and School of Education Research that did not previously undertake undergraduate training tasks. It will strengthen cross integration with information science, establish a "big social science" curriculum system, and build a "social science+AI" training system to help students accumulate humanistic literacy, cultivate scientific spirit, expand international perspectives, enhance innovation capabilities, and grow into leaders of a digital society.
