In the past five years, China has built the world's largest and technologically advanced 5G network, with a penetration rate of over 60% for 5G users. The global proportion of 5G standard essential patents is 42%, and 5G applications are integrated into 74 out of 97 national economic categories. "Since the official issuance of the 5G commercial license, China has adhered to the principle of 'moderately leading and promoting the use of construction', solidly promoting the coordinated development of 5G 'construction, use, and research', achieving global leadership in network infrastructure, continuous breakthroughs in key core technologies, highlighting the effectiveness of digital and practical integration applications, and continuous improvement of the security guarantee system." On June 6th, at the 2024 Mobile Communications High Quality Development Forum with the theme of "Unlimited possibilities for the future of Zhilian", Zhao Zhiguo, Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated. Directly driving the total economic output of about 5.6 trillion yuan, the development of mobile communication technology takes about 10 years, and 5 years is a key node that connects the past and the future. According to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, in the past five years of commercial use, 5G has directly driven a total economic output of about 5.6 trillion yuan and indirectly driven a total output of about 14 trillion yuan, effectively promoting high-quality economic and social development. The latest data released on this forum shows that as of the end of April this year, China has built a total of 3.748 million 5G base stations, with over 26 5G base stations per 10000 people. 5G networks are continuously moving from being connected to counties to being connected to villages; More than 90% of 5G base stations have achieved co construction and sharing, and the energy consumption of 5G base stations has decreased by 20% compared to the initial commercial stage; Build over 30000 5G industry dedicated networks; 5G has achieved scale replication in key industries such as mining, power, and healthcare, and the application of 5G in the industrial sector is gradually deepening from peripheral links to core links such as research and development, design, and production manufacturing. Currently, mobile communication represented by 5G has become one of the most innovative, widely penetrated, and significantly driven technological fields. Zhao Zhiguo suggested that we should adhere to innovation and continuously strengthen core technology research and development. Closely tracking global technological evolution and industrial development trends, vigorously promoting the integration and innovation of 5G with various technologies such as big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, and enhancing the ability of digital technology to empower the transformation of the real economy; At the same time, we will promote the evolution of technologies such as 5G lightweight (Redcap) and 5G-A, as well as product research and commercial deployment. We will continue to conduct testing and verification of new technologies such as communication perception integration, wireless endogenous AI, and mobile phone direct satellite connection. We will accelerate the development and maturity of related industries and help build strategic emerging industries such as low altitude economy. To provide more solid support for high-quality economic and social development. Looking forward to the next five years, 5G industry applications will enter the deep water area. 5G-A will bring new capabilities such as synaesthesia integration, satellite ground integration, and will become the underlying support for innovative applications such as industrial Internet, low altitude economy, satellite communications, and so on. Specifically, we should continue to strengthen the top-level design plan, promote the systematic development of new information infrastructure such as mobile communication, optical fiber broadband, computing power, etc., deeply implement the industrial Internet innovation and development project, and vigorously promote the large-scale development of 5G applications. Promote the deep integration of information and communication technology with vertical industries, and actively cultivate new models and formats. At the same time, solidify the foundation and continuously improve network support capabilities. Deepen the construction of "dual gigabit" networks and orderly upgrade and evolve existing 5G networks to 5G-A according to scene requirements. We will deepen the implementation of the "signal upgrading" special action and promote deep network coverage in cultural tourism, medical institutions, higher education institutions, and other places. Strengthen the supply of security technology, products, and solutions, and continue to increase the construction of 5G industry dedicated networks. In addition, Zhao Zhiguo emphasized the need to adhere to openness and win-win, strengthen international exchanges and cooperation in areas such as technology, standards, applications, and security, encourage domestic enterprises and institutions to actively participate in standard organization activities such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the International Organization for Standardization (3GPP), and provide high-quality products and services to more countries or regions.
