On June 6th, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Li Jiachao, met with the Mayor of Guangzhou, Sun Zhiyang, to exchange views on deepening cooperation between Hong Kong and Guangzhou. The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Tsang Kwok wai, attended the meeting. Li Jiachao expressed his pleasure to meet with Mayor Sun Zhiyang again after attending the founding meeting of the 15th National Games Organizing Committee in Guangzhou in April. He said that Hong Kong and Guangzhou are both central cities in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, jointly serving as the core engine of regional development. In recent years, they have actively promoted different cooperation projects, including high-quality development in Nansha, Hong Kong Stock Exchange's investment in Guangzhou Futures Exchange, and cooperation in the horse industry. Li Jiachao pointed out that according to the 2023 Global Innovation Index, the "Shenzhen Hong Kong Guangzhou" technology cluster has been ranked second in the world for four consecutive years, indicating the unlimited potential for technological innovation development in the three regions. He pointed out that the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), which operates in Nansha, aims to cultivate students into high-end innovative talents for the future, which will help Hong Kong and Guangzhou jointly build a major scientific and technological innovation platform and contribute to building a country into a world science and technology powerhouse. He said that this year marks the fifth anniversary of the promulgation of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. He believes that Hong Kong and Guangzhou will continue to complement each other's strengths and achieve mutual benefit, enhance higher-level cooperation between the two cities, and work together to promote high-quality development of the Greater Bay Area.
