Opera is a comprehensive art that combines various genres such as music, drama, literature, dance, and stage art. The comprehensiveness of opera art determines the richness of stage presentation. Growing up in the red land of Hunan and with over 40 years of military literary and artistic work experience, I have a natural sense of closeness to revolutionary historical themes and contemporary reality themes. In recent years, I have created ethnic operas such as "Ma Xiangyang Goes to the Countryside", "Yimeng Mountain", "Yingxiong", "Red Boat", "Half Red Army Besieged", and "August 1st Uprising". Each creation has made me think about how to innovate the way of storytelling, so that the audience can better understand opera art and get closer to the stories of British models. Opera is a comprehensive art that combines various genres such as music, drama, literature, dance, and stage art. The comprehensiveness of opera art determines the richness of stage presentation. Ethnic opera needs to be both pleasing to the ear and visually appealing. It should break through the habitual thinking that opera is good at expressing emotions and not good at narrating, and pay more attention to stage performance. Taking the ethnic opera "Red Boat" as an example, we used 18 large boards with a width of 3 meters and a height of 10 meters to create a montage style scene transition. We flexibly used sliding curtains, projections, lighting, and other means, and used 2 turntables to drive 50 scenes and spaces, presenting multiple historical scenes smoothly to the audience. The comprehensiveness, richness, and liveliness of ethnic opera also collectively point to the possibility of art. In artistic performance, national operas should learn the freehand brushwork aesthetics of Chinese operas and explore the possibility of integration of different art categories. In script writing, we should adhere to the artistic creation principle of "no exaggeration of major events and no restraint on minor matters", explore the deep possibilities of characters, and display actions and stage details that are in line with their personality traits and ideal pursuits. To enhance the artistic appeal of a work, it depends on shaping heroic characters with flesh and blood, as well as smoke and fire, and using the greatness in ordinary to move and persuade people. The flourishing development of ethnic opera stems from efforts to explore the essence of life. Ethnic opera presents the life that Chinese people immerse themselves in and create, expressing their emotional experiences and spiritual world. To evoke empathy, aesthetics, and resonance among the audience, one must reach the "truth" of art. In my creative career, in order to write a good script, I spent a year traveling through 72 counties in the original Jin Cha Ji region, and also went deep into the east along the route of the 115th Division of the Eighth Route Army to gather inspiration; I focus on cultivating the performance skills of opera performers, guiding them to convey sincere emotions through vocal singing, body language, and facial expressions. Every time a play is performed, I sit in the back row of the theater and observe the audience's live reactions. In front of them is a live stage where an opera is being performed, while in front of me is an increasingly young audience, a vast art stage of the new era. Looking forward to the beauty of opera entering more theaters, and the main melody of the times singing in the hearts of more people, this is the obligation of national opera directors, and it is also a kind of glory.
