On the 4th, a spokesperson for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government stated that the government warmly welcomes the introduction of sleeper high-speed trains on the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong High Speed Rail. Starting from June 15th, there will be evening trains running between West Kowloon Station, Beijing West Station, and Shanghai Hongqiao Station, leading the Hong Kong section of the high-speed rail, which has been in operation for more than 5 years, to another glorious milestone. The spokesperson said that the SAR government has been closely communicating with relevant units in the mainland, as well as railway operating institutions in both the mainland and Hong Kong. Through various measures such as increasing direct stations, train schedules, and introducing "flexible travel" and multi journey tickets, it facilitates efficient and convenient high-speed rail services for people to travel and exchange, further leveraging the advantages of interconnection between the Hong Kong section of the high-speed rail and the national high-speed rail network. The spokesperson said that China Railway Group announced in the morning of the same day that the regular speed direct trains between Hong Kong's Hung Hom Station and Beijing and Shanghai will be upgraded to high-speed rail sleeper trains. The introduction of high-speed rail sleeper trains for the Hong Kong section will shorten the railway travel time to Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shanghai by about half in the future. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Li Jiachao, expressed gratitude to the central government for its care for Hong Kong and to China Railway Group and various units in the mainland for their strong support. The comprehensive quality upgrade of train services will further meet the needs of passengers for cross-border travel, facilitate personnel exchanges, promote public relations between Hong Kong and mainland residents, and better integrate Hong Kong into the overall development of the country, which is of great significance. Lin Shixiong, Director of the Transport and Logistics Bureau of the Special Administrative Region Government, said that the upcoming high-speed rail sleeper train services will depart every Friday to Monday, catering to demand and providing more convenient, comfortable, and high-quality cross-border railway services to enhance the travel experience of business and leisure travelers. The spokesperson said that the SAR government will definitely live up to the central government's trust, fully prepare and organize coordination.
