On May 28th, coinciding with the fourth anniversary of the promulgation of China's Civil Code, the Civil Code Summit Forum, jointly organized by the Civil Law Research Association of the Chinese Law Society, the Law School of Renmin University of China, and the Civil and Commercial Law Science Research Center of Renmin University of China, was held in Beijing. Huang Wei, Director of the Civil Law Department of the Legal Work Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Chen Yifang, President of the Civil First Division of the Supreme People's Court, Feng Xiaoguang, Director of the Sixth Procuratorate of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, Li Fucheng, Deputy Director of the Comprehensive Rule of Law Research Center of the Ministry of Justice, and Wang Liming, Vice President of the China Law Society, President of the Civil Law Research Society of the China Law Society, and First Class Professor of Renmin University of China, delivered keynote speeches. More than 20 representatives from institutions such as the Legal Work Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, and the Research Center for Comprehensive Rule of Law of the Ministry of Justice, as well as research institutes such as Renmin University of China, the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University, China University of Political Science and Law, and Beihang University, attended the forum. The attending representatives unanimously believe that the Civil Code has opened the precedent for the compilation of Chinese legal codes and has significant milestone significance. The Civil Code, as a fundamental law that solidifies the foundation, stabilizes expectations, and benefits the long term, comprehensively summarizes the work experience of handling civil issues since the Party came into power and the life experience of 1.4 billion Chinese people. The promulgation of the Civil Code has realized the dreams of several generations of civil law scholars and is a major achievement in the comprehensive rule of law since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. We must adhere to self-reliance and confidence, and accelerate the construction of China's independent knowledge system of civil law based on the Civil Code. (Lai Xin She)
