On May 27th local time, the Sino Cambodian "Golden Dragon 2024" joint naval exercise was held in the waters near Sihanouk Port in Cambodia. The drill focuses on the theme of "Joint Counter Terrorism and Humanitarian Rescue", focusing on maritime joint anti-terrorism and anti hijacking operations, with a focus on exercises such as joint response, formation search, military rescue, and maritime rescue. A total of 16 ships from China and Cambodia participated in the drill. It is understood that this is the first live combat exercise jointly conducted by the Chinese Navy fleet and the Cambodian Navy. The drill is set against the backdrop of several "terrorists" hijacking a cargo ship and kidnapping crew members for ransom in a certain sea area of Cambodia. The Chinese Navy dock landing ship Qilianshan, missile frigates Wenshan, Bazhong, and Cambodian Navy vessels jointly form a maritime joint mission formation. The Qilianshan is the commanding ship of the maritime joint mission formation, and the formation urgently rushed to the "incident area" for disposal. It is reported that the maritime joint exercise is carried out in three stages: adaptive training, command exercises, and live combat exercises. The ships of China and Cambodia are mixed and trained together, learn from each other, and improve together, further enhancing the level of command cooperation and emergency response capabilities. On May 16th, the opening ceremony of the Sino Cambodian "Golden Dragon 2024" joint exercise was held at a training base of the Cambodian Royal Army. The "Golden Dragon" series of joint exercises is a routine military cooperation activity between the two militaries of China and Cambodia, aimed at consolidating and developing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, increasing political mutual trust, and expanding military exchanges between the two countries.
