Xinhua News | Yunnan Primary School, Witnessing the Deep Friendship between China and Equatorial Guinea Brothers

2024-05-28

On the afternoon of May 27th, a video connection was held between Beijing and Yunnan. On the side of Beijing, there is Equatorial Guinea President Obiang; This video connection is a special arrangement in President Obiang's visit to China. Why does a president of an African country have a video meeting with teachers and students from a primary school on the southwestern border of China? The story needs to be told 9 years ago. More than a year later, a new teaching building with 5 floors, 20 classrooms, 10 bathrooms, and 5 offices, with a total area of approximately 2530 square meters, was completed and put into use. The children deep in the mountains have better learning conditions. In order to express gratitude for the deep friendship between the two countries, this elementary school has also been given a new name - China Equatorial Guinea Friendship Elementary School. Over the past 9 years, more than 2000 children have graduated from here. During a video call by Xinhua News Agency reporter Hu Chao, a letter from a sixth grade student at Friendship Elementary School was unfolding on the table next to President Obiang. "We are the direct beneficiaries of the sincere friendship between China and Equatorial Guinea," the children wrote in the letter, stating that they will work hard to learn scientific and cultural knowledge and become ambassadors of friendly exchanges between the two countries. President Obiang expressed the hope that children will become useful pillars of society in the future. The initiative of a head of state from a central and western African country to help China's local development is impressive. And this kind of mutual respect stems from China's sincere treatment of African brothers, including Equatorial Guinea, for a long time. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations for over half a century, China and Equatorial Guinea have always treated each other equally, respected and supported each other, and have a profound traditional friendship. Since 1971, China has dispatched 33 batches of over 600 medical teams to aid Equatorial Guinea, contributing to the protection of local people's health; In 2008, when China was hit by a major earthquake, Equatorial Guinea donated 2 million euros... Entering a new era, the two countries actively aligned their development strategies and carried out effective practical cooperation in infrastructure construction, technical assistance, and other fields, benefiting the people of both countries. "We are very proud to see that the seeds of friendship planted at China Equatorial Guinea Friendship Primary School are blooming and bearing fruit." President Obiang said in a video link. As an old friend of the Chinese people, President Obiang has visited China more than ten times. On May 27th, students from China Equatorial Guinea Friendship Primary School greeted Equatorial Guinea President Obiang via video link. On the other side of the video connection, as the Hani children's song "Amice" played, 38 students dressed in ethnic costumes such as Miao, Yao, Dai, and Hani presented their joyful singing voices to "Grandpa Obiang". The fifth grade student representative, Wang Yixiao, said, "There is a friend in the sea, and the ends of the earth are like neighbors. I want to visit our friends in Equatorial Guinea, and I also hope that Grandpa Obiang will have the opportunity to visit our school in the future." President Obiang replied that one day in the future, he must personally visit this elementary school named "Friendship". (Lai Xin She)
