The Hong Kong Productivity Council (hereinafter referred to as the "Productivity Council") and F1inSchools Hong Kong have successfully held the F1inSchools Hong Kong preliminary competition, attracting 10 teams from 7 secondary schools and a total of 55 students to participate. After intense competition, six teams eventually advanced to the finals and will strive to represent Hong Kong in the 2025 F1 in Schools International Tournament. F1inSchools was founded in the UK in 1999 and is the world's largest Formula One racing education event, covering over 26000 schools in approximately 50 regions. By participating in competitions, students can learn to use various computer-aided design tools to design and manufacture Formula One models made of bricks, and then use compressed gas to drive the cars for testing and competition, while gaining experience in project management and team collaboration. The champion team of the Hong Kong preliminary competition, Prism from Leung Sau Tak Secondary School, a former Premier's Fellowship of Po Oi Hospital, told reporters that the competition process was very unforgettable, especially in the training courses provided by the Productivity Bureau. They were exposed to CAD/CAM software and knowledge for the first time, which played a very important role in comparing the performance of the competition. Lingnan Dr. Zhong Rongguang Memorial High School has sent students to participate in the competition for the third consecutive year. This year's participating team VOOMracing stated that through pre competition training, they have learned a lot of knowledge outside of the classroom, including understanding fluid dynamics, managing teams, and team cooperation. Not only have they increased their interest in STEAM courses (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) and physics knowledge, but they are also happy to be able to put theory into practice in the competition. The Productivity Bureau stated that starting from 2022, with the support of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Innovation and Technology Fund General Support Program, the Bureau will introduce the F1inSchools STEAM course into Hong Kong, actively promote STEAM education, lay a solid foundation for students' innovation and technology paths, and help cultivate local technology talents. As of now, over 100 primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong have participated in the experience and training activities of F1inSchoolsSEAM. (Lai Xin She)
