According to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Information Office, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Lee Ka chao, met with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Zahid, who was visiting Hong Kong on the 23rd. Li Jiachao welcomes Zahid's visit to Hong Kong. He pointed out that trade between Hong Kong and Malaysia has always been close, with bilateral trade in goods reaching 23.9 billion US dollars last year. Malaysia is Hong Kong's ninth largest trading partner, and within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Malaysia is Hong Kong's third largest trading partner. He expressed gratitude to Malaysia for consistently supporting Hong Kong's early accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, making greater contributions to regional cooperation. Li Jiachao said that "grabbing and retaining talents" is one of the key policies of the current SAR government, and the "High end Talent Passport Program" welcomes graduates from the top 100 universities in the world, including the University of Malaya, to come to Hong Kong for development. The SAR government will continue to maintain close cooperation with Malaysia to promote talent exchange in different fields such as healthcare and vocational training. He also pointed out that Hong Kong is making every effort to develop into an international post-secondary education hub, and will increase the number of "the Belt and Road" scholarships from the next academic year. He welcomed more Malaysian students to study in Hong Kong, and deepened youth exchanges between the two places. Li Jiachao stated that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia. Hong Kong will continue to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with Malaysia in trade, investment, innovation and technology, cultural tourism, and other areas, to help the country and Malaysia further consolidate bilateral relations.
