The sunshine is bright and the spring breeze is warm. Yang Hongbo, the head of Xidong Agricultural Machinery Professional Cooperative in Gongtian Town, Yueyang County, Yueyang City, Hunan Province, is busy "printing" the last batch of spring plowed grains this year. I saw him press the start button, and the scrolls at both ends of the 3D printing seeder began to operate. After a roll of white seedling paper was spread out, it was transported from one end of the seeder to the other. The seeds that fall from the funnel above are immediately firmly stuck by the rows and rows of edible glue distributed on the paper. Edible gum is made from konjac flour, which is not only environmentally friendly but also has strong viscosity. As the paper turns into a roll, the unbound grains fall into the basket below, waiting to be collected and sown again. In 2018, Yang Hongbo introduced "3D printing seeding" seedling cultivation technology from Hunan Agricultural University. This technology fully respects the germination rate of seeds and the picking rules of transplanters, allowing the grain seeds to be accurately positioned on seedling paper, ensuring even distribution of seedlings. After several years of practice, Yang Hongbo found that the seedling rate of seeds sown through 3D printing is over 90%. Compared with traditional soft disk seeding and seedling cultivation, the amount of hybrid seeds used per acre has been reduced from 3 kilograms to 2 kilograms. Meanwhile, this technology can enhance the quality of seedlings and increase yield per mu by more than 10%. After the printing is completed, we need to plant and raise seedlings. There are grids in the seedling greenhouse that are the same width as the seedling paper, with non-woven fabric laid on the bottom and filled with mud extracted from the paddy field. The workers work in pairs, flattening the seedling paper and covering it in reverse on the mud. "After the grain seeds have completely fallen into the mud, we can remove the seedling paper and let the seedlings grow naturally. After about 25 days of careful cultivation, when the seedlings grow 'three leaves and one heart', we can then pick them up from each 'mud grid' and transplant them to the field," said Yang Hongbo. In the past, Yang Hongbo directly spread seedling paper in the rice paddies. Once it hit the "late spring cold", the seedlings were easily damaged. For this reason, he built a seedling greenhouse last year and innovatively explored the technology of non tray seedling cultivation in dryland. "Similarly, using the '3D printing seeding' technology, compared to seedling cultivation in rice paddies, non tray seedling cultivation in dryland can reduce the labor and production costs of seedling cultivation by 30% and 40%, respectively," said Yang Hongbo. Not far away in Gengkou Town, the Fengrui Agricultural Machinery Professional Cooperative in Yueyang County is lush with greenery. The smart seedling greenhouse of over 24000 square meters in the cooperative and the cement flat outside the greenhouse are both used to place seedling trays. "This year, the cooperative has planted over 1200 acres of double cropping rice. We not only raise seedlings for our own farmland, but also provide seedling raising services for surrounding farmers." Dong Minfang, the head of the cooperative, told reporters that there are strict agricultural requirements for seedling raising and transplanting, and the key to cultivating so many seedlings in a short period of time is the intelligent high-speed sowing assembly line designed and developed by the cooperative. Dong Minfang introduced that after the rice seedling tray was put into the intelligent high-speed sowing assembly line, it began to carry out processes such as laying soil, watering, sowing, covering soil, and stacking the tray. With the rapid operation of the machine, 3200 seedling trays can be produced per hour, which can meet the seedling cultivation needs of 1500 acres of farmland in a day. "It not only saves costs but also seizes the agricultural season, achieving cost reduction and efficiency improvement," said Dong Minfang. As a major grain production county with rice as the leading industry, Yueyang County relies on agricultural professional cooperatives to create high-speed cultivation
