2024-04-08

What does safeguarding the health of over 1.4 billion Chinese people mean for world health? From eliminating key infectious diseases such as malaria and polio to building the world's largest healthcare service system... This path to health is not only closely related to the health and well-being of about 18% of the global population, but also provides a "Chinese solution" to improve global health governance. From "staying on the island for minor illnesses" to "relying on serious illnesses", Shiye Town, Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province, is a small island in the middle of the Yangtze River. The permanent population is over 10000, and residents mainly rely on the town health center for medical treatment. Collaborate with municipal hospitals in Zhenjiang to establish a general and specialized joint outpatient clinic, with experts assigned to provide services on the island on a regular basis; Standardized management has been carried out for more than 2200 patients with hypertension and diabetes in the whole town... Today, Shiye Town Health Center has an annual outpatient volume of 60000 people, with a grass-roots visit rate of 84.79% and a chronic disease patient visit rate of 90%. April 7th, World Health Day. In a themed promotional event jointly organized by the National Health Commission and the World Health Organization's China Representative Office, Hu Xiaozhong, the director of the Health Center in Shiye Town, shared his personal experience of improving the level of health services: "Health is the most important indicator of a happy life, as' minor illnesses do not leave the island, and major illnesses rely on 'has transformed from dreams to reality.". Looking at the whole country, the maternal and infant mortality rates have dropped to historic lows, and the world's largest medical security system has been established. The main health indicators of residents are among the top in middle - and high-income countries... A series of numbers outline a curve of continuous improvement in people's health levels. At the event, Li Bin, Deputy Director of the National Health Commission, said that since the new era, the Party and government have prioritized the development of people's health, deepened the reform of the medical and health system, implemented the Healthy China strategy, and continuously enhanced China's medical and health service capabilities, fully safeguarding the right to health of all people. From setting an example in malaria prevention and control to sharing experience in medical aid to foreign countries, the 20th batch of medical aid teams to Zimbabwe successfully completed their tasks and returned home in March this year. In response to common infectious diseases such as malaria in the local area, foreign medical team members not only frequently conduct free consultations, but also actively educate local residents on prevention and control measures. "We have produced bilingual malaria prevention and control science popularization videos in Chinese and English to help local people better understand malaria prevention and control knowledge," said Hu Yang, a member of the Zimbabwe medical team and a neonatologist at Hunan Children's Hospital. Malaria was once one of the major infectious diseases with the longest epidemic history and the widest impact in China. Before the establishment of the People's Republic of China, there were about 30 million malaria patients in China every year, among which malaria outbreaks had occurred in Hunan and other places. In June 2021, the World Health Organization officially announced the elimination of malaria in China. After eliminating smallpox, filariasis, poliomyelitis, and neonatal tetanus, China has put an end to another history of major infectious diseases. The World Health Organization has released a press release stating that the reduction of malaria infection cases in China from 30 million per year to zero is a remarkable achievement. With foreign medical teams traveling to 76 countries and regions, China's successful experience in eliminating malaria has also been widely recognized by the international community, and more and more countries are learning from China's experience in preventing and treating malaria. Qiao Jianrong, Charg é d'affaires of the World Health Organization in China, stated that healthcare based on primary healthcare
